stripped iac bolts...

I stripped the bolts holding the IAC. What do I need to remove to get to it easier? Take off the throttle body and everything behind it?

WTF masonball Yes you would pull the elbow where your TB bolts to the intake. Is it the lower bolt that you stripped or the upper bolt or both?Anyway you are going to have to pull it then drill and tap your holes.Or you could prob patch it up until you have more time

Just the upper, but man I feel like a retard. I pulled the IAC and cleaned it, reinstalled and it ran great for about 15 min. So I bought a new IAC, and went to install and used one of my dad's old sockets. I thought I was turning the bolt, but I was just turning the ratchet with a rounded socket!!! DAMN!!! So I bought a small rounded bolt remover and it fell off and is now gone forever.

Easy if it's just the head thats stripped. Hammer the next smaller SAE socket on there or use vise-grips. Another option is to saw or file a slot like a screwdriver on the bolt head.

Ya, the head's still on there, I tried vice grips, even the small ones, and once they're clamped on, there's no room to move in any direction. My dad tried to pull a "vacuum" hose out of the way, but it ended up being a nice hot coolant line. Thanks dad, for the sticky green engine. Also, I can't hammer on a smaller socket - there's no room for ANYTHING back there. Once I have the TB off I can get them off.

Then I have about 500 dull drill bits that I go thru before finding a sharp one

Gotta get me one of those "Drill Docter's " someday..

Well there's all kinds of different vise grips available. I have a dinky little needle nose pair that would probably work.

Did you try the socket? Maybe you can use some big plyers like channel locks to squeeze it on there. You can always break out a little file and shape it up a bit while taking it down a size.

Your just going to have to get creative or pull it out.
