Oil leaking

I have an 01 with the 5.4 and it is leaking oil form somewhere behind the starter. I cant exactly tell where it is coming form. It was not there last time I change the oil and I change every 3,000. The starter is coverd in oil, the little down tube for AC condensation is coverd in oil. Im am going to clean it all up and see if it comes back. Any help would be appreated.

maybe last time you changed it, some was spilled. OR the headgasket is leaking, which is a pretty common problem, but nothing to worry about, just a mess.

I hope you meant valve cover gasket, 'cause I'd worry about a headgasket.....

No, headgasket, most all ford headgaskets are cut short on the front and back, mostly passenger side. This lets a slight bit of oil to slip by, mine does it off and on, it doesnt leak right now, hasnt for 3 months, but it did, and when it did leak, i had to add a quart every 3000 miles, not bad, but it has no relation to the combustion chamber, so no chance of failure, just a leak.

99% chance its your headgasket. If not, than you lucked out and got a cruddy valve cover gasket. My headgaskets leak, I hate it. About a $450 do-it-yourself job

Oh.... I must have got lucky with the '97 and 2000 I had. Neither of them lost any engine oil. The 302's I had are another story though............

Thanks for the advice built54. I was just a little worried do to the fact that I just recintly got my AF1 and Magnaflow form troyer and I have been running my truck a little harder then I used to. Sorry I just keep my foot out of it because of the exhaust . But also I just reacently just started to have an exhaust leak that just so happed to come form the passanger side as well so I was wondering if it was connected or is it just time for headers. Thanks for the advice guys.

Hey built54 did you buy the whole kit they sell for like $1300 or did you just get headers. I was plan on getting ceramic coated headers to keep the under hood temps low.

yea I have the whole kit, but I got it for $1000... Dont bother with shorty headers, they are worthless.
