Sensor on oil pan

Can anyone tell me what the sensor is for on the side of the oil pan about half way up from the bottom.
Temp, oil level or just what?
Could it effect the engine idle?

My brother said it is throwing a code related to the fuel system. He couldn't remember the code number. I told him I would ask the experts, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

06 F150 5.4

Thanks

I know on my 96 Mustang GT(4.6L) it is an oil level sensor. Maybe the same on your truck.

It's an engine oil temp sensor.
