Demand for Ford F-150 over the other 4 makers
Dear Forum guys,
I need your help with a project for my college statistics course.
I need to know how you would rank the top 5 truck manufacturers on the basis of Engine performance, towing capability, reliability, look appeal, and fuel economy.
For example when answering for Ford, I would pick....
Engine performance: Rating: 1,2,3,4,5 = 4
Towing Capability: Rating: 1,2,3,4,5 = 5
Reliability: Rating: 1,2,3,4,5 = 5
Look appeal: Rating: 1,2,3,4,5 = 4
Fuel Economy: Rating: 1,2,3,4,5 = 3
1=worst case
5=best case
do this for the Silverado, Ram 1500, Titan, and Tundra, as well.
I need at least 30 responses.
your help is greatly appreciated

You mean rank them all 1-5, worst-best...or like if we use a 5 for looks on the f150, we can't give the dodge a 5 as well even if we think it is a 5/5 as far as looks? I mean if we think The f150 looks the best and give it a 5...then give the dodge a 5...can we then give the chevy a 2, the titan and the tundra a 2 for example, or we have to go like ford 5, dodge 4, titan 3, tundra 2, chevy 1???
Oh well I'm going to bed, so I'm going to guess what you want.
engine performance, towing, reliability, look appeal, fuel economy
F150 = 4, 5, 5, 5, 3
Silverado = 3, 3, 2, 2, 3
Ram = 5, 4, 2, 5, 3
Titan = 5, 4, 3, 3, 3
Tundra = 4, 3, 3, 2, 3

Well, I would have to say when compared to competition at this point in time I would have to rate things a little differently.
Engine performance: Rating: 1,2,3,4,5 = 3
Towing Capability: Rating: 1,2,3,4,5 = 5
Reliability: Rating: 1,2,3,4,5 = 5
Look appeal: Rating: 1,2,3,4,5 = 5
Fuel Economy: Rating: 1,2,3,4,5 = 3
It's hard to say, but I think reliability and fuel economy could also switch between the rating I gave, and "4" as well.

Hi.
To be statistically relevant, you'll need to do this on forums for all the other makes, because I doubt you'll get an objective, impartial response here ... and WTF kind of sample size is 30 responses, anyway?
Case in point - 'Fives' across the board for me - custom tuning got me my performance & economy back

And a sample size of 30 for a study like that, done by a single person isn't unreasonable at all- it's a project, not the national census.

It's pretty irrelevant actually. Unless we owned all of the other trucks, all we're getting is pretty much opinions. And probably uninformed opinions at that. For example, how am I going to rate the towing and / or engine performance on a Tundra? Maybe the Toyota web site? I don't have one, nor have I driven one. So what we're going to see is , on F150online.com, the owners opinion is 'x'. If it's so he can show the mean, standard deviation, etc. of a small sample, then the project would make more sense to all of us. Of course, whether or not the project is relevant or makes sense to us is irrelevant. IMO, if he wants data, he should set up a three day weekend shootout for us. So we can come to some fairgrounds somewhere and test all of the trucks... maybe thrash a few too.

Not a fair comparison. Its all opinion. And most people have had only 1 or 2 brands of trucks.
Maybe you should pick a soda or something instead of vehicles. They are much cheaper-therefore everyone has had a chance to drink it. I doubt anyones a die-hard sprite fan. So you would get better results.
I know that vehicles makes a better comparison because of more uses. but dont ask people on ford website.

I don't think the people here are the best to ask.
Personally, I drive an older Ford and have never driven one of the 2004+ models. I have never driven a Tundra, the Silverado I drove was a V6, and the Ram I drove was the older style with the 5.9L. My dad has a Titan that I drive frequently, and I personally love the engine performance and towing ability and even the looks, but half of the buttons and controls on the inside are glitchy or do not work at all (plus it feels a little awkward to drive... it's hard to explain).
So I don't think I am in a position to answer your survey. This is probably the case with most of the rest of the people here. You might acheive better results if you use an unbiased source such as Consumer Reports or something else like it...
