I agree , but there's a big difference in power and the kind of. 5.4L dominates there chris.

If you just wonna wind your rubberband and get from a2b - then a 4six is 4 u. - but don't buy a truck.

get a car with a big trunk..

I want a truck that I can use as a truck. 4six is a car motor and it should of stayed there.. Stupid to put them on trucks - They make power where? In one spot up in the revs . Give me a break on the 4six Bullchit - It really sucks huge, stock!!! Give it rest, maybe you should trade that truck in , since you can't tell the difference.

I used to own a 5.4L reg. cab. At the same time, my buddy had a 4.6 reg. cab.

Both our trucks had the EXACT same mods: Flowmaster 40 seris, CAI, and a snugtop tonneau cover. We even both had 3.55's. EXACTLY the same truck, except for the engine.

Let me tell you: His was a dog compared to mine. It just was. I would push the gas pedal about 2/3rds down, and it was the same as flooring his. His truck was nice, had pleanty of power, and sounded really nice. But it just was not comparible to the 5.4L.

The desparity in torque is very, very noticable.

The instructions say to drop the pan and change the filter first - I plugged the new filter with contaminants when charging the oil per instructions, fried the solenoid. I had to pull the tranny after that and take it apart by hand and clean it.. Well I'm not a tranny guy - I didn't use to be anyway (I learned hands on, along with a step by step video) everything had been sludged - that came from the converter and cooler.

After I put it back together and replaced the solenoid - I heated up solvent and plumed a line from my air compressor with a suction valve off the stem that forced solvent thru her to rinse the rest of the crap out of there , then ran regular dextron mercon thru her (heated) , capped it off and filled with Amsoil.
It's been okay for the last 6000 and still is - My VSS was bad, wheeeww, changed it out this morning.

Talked to allot of tranny guys since then , here in town. I need to put a shift kit in it yet and that should get me a couple more years out of it..

lmao my tranny runs fine, i am SO glad for that. i am by all means not experienced with trannys at all. well i can rebuild my cr250's lol but thats nothing like this. i would be so lost.

btw! is the filter really like a big open screen? jiffy lube n such around here dont recommend changing the filter because its really just a screen, i eyeballed him and said im going home. lol

I personally prefer the 5.4. The 4.6 is great if you are used to driving chebbies or dudges. They don't need a 5.4 right off the bat...
