From a Harley...............

To a Taurus?????

That's like going out on a date with a smokin-hot blonde that looks like a Play Boy playmate, drinking too much, and waking up next to a 400lb blob of slobbering fat-*** that smells like mix nacho-cheese and burnt hair and has roaches running into her fat rolls when you turn on the lights.

That's the WHAT THE F^^K moment of a lifetime right there!

amsoil

JBrew,

I noticed you have been using Amsoil. I made the switch to full synthetic at 9,000 (Mobil 1), then eventually became a dedicated Amsoil user since then. I now have over 102,000 miles and my 5.4 doesn't use a drop of oil. Have you had your truck since new?

Later...

Nope , switched motoroil to Amsoil about 20,000 miles ago - Crap!! I better change it!! Kidding , They say you can go 7500 between changes . I change the Amsoil at 5000.

Before Amsoil it was nothing but Castrol Regular for the first 50k , then 50/50 the rest of the way.

I stuck with the same bran for a long time .

I think what counts the most is just changing your oil every 3000 miles.

I've seen what happens if you don't lol..

I just recently did all the drivetrain - trans too - all at once - greased the splines up- Amsoiled the front and rear diffs, t/case, trans.

She glides now , still get a hum from the rear tho.

It was a noticible difference , exspensive as hell.

I don't have to worry about it for awhile.

My 5.4 is @ 205,000 doesn't leak and doesn't burn between changes.

Which Amsoil do you use? I use 5W30. With it, they recommend drain intervals of 25,000, changing the filter at 12,500 and topping it off. I just can't go that long. I never let it go any longer than 7,500 miles.
Any other Amsoil users out there?

one of the shaft seals or bushings went out and started to starve the return on the pump so the pump burned up in it. which caused the gears to grind into the casing

Ford updated there seals in 98 - vehicles before 98 - this goes for transmissions too, had some major issues with synthetics and seals.

According to a quote from a Ford engineer , Via- TCCOA Tech Articles on there site..

I could have run Mercon V in my trans in 98 because of the seal update.
