The best trick I found so far is to drive to my local favorite lube shop and pay them to install a new one.
Cost $28.00.
I didn't get dirty.
Didn't need to put on jack stands.
Didn't break any clips.
Didn't need to buy a special tool.
And got a free cup of coffee, and some good converstation with my friend Joe.

1. Unplug the fuel cutoff switch or pull the pump relay to disable the pump.
2. Start the engine and let it idle until it stalls, this will bleed off most of the pressure in the system.
3. Remove the fuel cap to release any pressure in the tank.
4. Remove the connectors and pull out the filter. Pay attention though as there will still be some pressure and fuel in the lines which will cause a spray, protect your eyes.

I never have to relieve any pressure, I don't really have to jack it up as I can slide under, but I do raise it about 3 or 4 inches just for extra elbow room. I have a rag ready when I pull off the line and it catches a few drips. the whole process including getting the floor jack out and putting it back takes about 10 minutes. I change it every 15,000 as they get too dirty for me to go the 30,000. A Motorcraft filter costs me $13.

Takes about 3 minutes after you figure it out. Hardest part is wrenching the filter out of the spring-bracket. Never had to relieve fuel line pressure or even jack the truck to gain access. Little fuel will come out of the lines, but the filter holds enough to get you pretty wet if you don't use a rag or are smart enough to be uphill of the filter. I got the entire Ford connector removal kit from Autozone for under $10. If the hose won't release easily, try using an extractor 1 size smaller.

the tool looks like a plastic washer about the size of a quarter and has a small tube coming out the center about 1/4''. any auto parts store has them. I suggest buying the cheapest' unless you plan to use a bunch of times..
sorry for my poor disruption don't have pics..:santa:
