Question Oil Change

Every time I get a oil change at the dealership something goes wrong!! If its not oil on my carpet from their work boots or my steering wheel feels grimy. I cant win..So I want to start doing it myself. I don't know what product to use for oil and oil filter. Any suggestions

Use the same thing they use at the dealership. I don't like changing oils. Use a Motorcraft filter.

Any decent auto parts store will carry Motorcraft 5W-20 and the Motorcraft filter (FL-820S I think.)

don't listen to those guys use one of the big brand oils, they're better than motorcraft in almost every aspect. I use Castrol Syntec myself, but even the Castrol or Mobil petrol based oils are better they have higher quality additives than motorcraft and resist heat breakdown better which is good for lead foots or guys that tow constantly.

Yeah we all know Ford reccomends the worse oil possible it can. You should use the most expensive oil you can buy that has the coolest marketing campaign.

Do you know how hot your engine has to be before the oil breaks down? If oil breaks down from heat you have much bigger problems. Your engine is either on fire, you have a cooling system problem, or you are way way overdue on an oil change.

Use the motorcraft 5w20 and the 820s filter. the oil is a blend, so is a very good oil at a very affordable price and is readily available.

Ive never seen an engine fail because someone used the wrong brand of oil. Ford recommends the 5w20 so why spend extra money on fancy oil that does the same job.

It is fine to disagree, (and this topic has been hashed to death), but if you call anyone out you better have more facts than it's what you have used.

The simple answer is the one in your owner's manual. Ford recommends an SM rated synthetic blend 5w-20 oil. The recommended oil change interval is 5K. The Motorcraft product fits the bill nicely and is reasonably priced. You certainly may use a higher quality (higher cost) synthetic oil. Castrol, Mobil 1, Redline, Amsoil etc. all make a synthetic 20 weight oil that meets Ford's specs. Let us know what you decide to use.
