Name that mystery part!

Greetings folks!

Riddle me this...

What is blue - round - goes around a spark plug at the base (not on the threads) - and crumbled to peices then I pulled the plug?

Was changing out plus tonight. Came to the 2nd from the back on passenger side .. and started having problems getting the socket to fit. I dindt force anything but it did finally grab. got the plug out and lo and behold! ... up comes this round, blue "spacer" looking thing (broken in half and missing some peices!)

Any ideas?

Thanks

Yeah it's hard to say what it is just by your description, although I would say it does not belong there

Hopefully none of those pieces fell into the plug hole :o

Is it metal? If not then I would say that it is accumultated crud that cooked itself on to the plug from the heat of the engine.

Its not metal .. its "plastic" or nylon and it doesnt appear to have nothing to do with the treads.. just the base stem of the plug above the treads.

I bought the truck with 41k ish miles on it and it dose have a history on Carfax (although I am not signed up).

If I were to guess, I'd say it has something to do with either: plug fouling; a fix for a blown plug.

As for the remainder of this "device", ..hell I dont know. I got the plug in there, started and drove a few miles and nothing blew up. Extended warrenties are your friend.

I'll try to get some pics posted today. I was hoping that some might have heard of a cylinder "fix" using these.

Thanks.

Hey Just a thought. Look inside your spark plug socket. Most of them have an insert to protect the top of the plug. Like I said just a thought!!!! Good luck

I bet that is it! It appears that oonly the top "lip" broke off. The new plug did go in and tighten fine.

Thanks all!
