Just bought a deep spark plug socket from Napa today for around $9.

I blew out #1 on Jan 7th, would have driven the 70+ miles back to ATL but passenger had AAA towing so we caught a ride :^( Followed the advice in this and similar threads and I am now back up and running again.
My dealer quoted me $745 to repair the plug hole and replace one COP, no deal. I rented a video scope (camera head must be 10mm or less to fit), 1 repair kit from Calvan, 1 motorcraft replacement plug, 8 COP'S from RockAuto and a sparkplug socket (great purchase), all for under $ 660. Since I have over 127k miles I thought it best to change all COP's
Instructions and video for kit are very easy to follow, the hardest part was trusting that I had ALL the shavings out of the cylinder, the plug hole is at an angle so you only get a view of 45% of the cylinder (unless you get the mirror attachment which I didn't), so it was a combination of vacuum then compressed air repeated about 10 times until I heard nothing rattling up the vacuum tube.

Humm... Still hasn't happend to me.. 
What seems to be the leading factors in this happening to an early 5.4?
I've changed my plugs... Once.... Been running fine ever since? What is the deal?

Hey Mitch, don't stress, just enjoy. There is absolutely no rhyme or reason for the blow out. There's no way to predict it and no way to prevent it. All the torque recommendations with no anti-seize and all that are great, but it's not a preventative item. If it's gonna happen its gonna happen. You haven't had it so don't sweat it. If it does happen, let me know;-)

I think a major cause of blow outs it loose coils. They need to be tight but not to tight. The mount screws get over tightened stripping the bolt causing the coil to move to much. That works the plug loose and it blows out. Its important to tighten the bolt but not to much. The coil rides o a bushing and its supposed to move very snugly. I think that is part of the blow out problem. Happened to me..
