living with ford spark plug blow out problem
I bought my 99 F150 from a company I was working for our shop mechanic had done all service on it since it was new and he was well aware of the plug blow out problem he told me that all 10 the f150s that were bought at the same time as mine none had a blow out heres the secret every third oil change take your plug socket and run the plugs all the trucks that were in the co. were in the 170000-250000 mi range without one single blow out just my .02 it seemed to work on fleet trucks and if it helps. its just a small inconvience but in the long run a heck of alot cheaper than a blowout
I rent mine!! Saves you quite a bit of money. I even had a guy rent mine and wanted it shipped UPS next day delivery. With all that shipping, rent, and everything, he still came out at 1/3 the cost of buying a kit. Plus I include the insert in the rental.
These guys are highly regarded:

NOT cheap, especially when travel is involved, but you may want to check and see if they have a certified affiliate anywhere near you.

I would gladly rent it out or sell it. I do have it listed on the classifieds here. I have 4 inserts left. I bought it direct from time sert for I think $450. plus shipping. What should a person charge for renting it out ... $100.00 per insert?
I rented the Timesert kit from Galaxy and it worked great. He shipped it the same day I asked for it. I received it in about 2 days and it worked great. Saved me a lot of money and hassle. If anyone is considering doing this I would highly recommend sending Galaxy a PM or email. He is a great person to do business with, Thanks to him my '99 F-150 is back on the road.
That is the same one that blew out on me. Surprisingly, the way this time sert kit is designed, the lack of working area is not a huge issue. I do not know how mechanical you are, but the time sert kit has great instructions, and is relatively easy to do.
Pinhead-227, don't know where you found those numbers but I'll tell ya no brand new TimeSert kit is anywhere inside that range. You don't have a PM option...send me an e-mail or something about renting mine. DO NOT buy a new kit, I'll save you a bundle.
Mine is also for sale or for rent. I sold my truck, so I no longer need the kit. I bought mine directly from Time Sert for Ithink 450.00 I used one insert. You may want the kit in case you blow another one. It is for sale in the classified's here. I have pictures of the kit to forward as well. It looks brand new.

Edit: I found the plug setting right next to the injector... The PO had Bosch Platinum +2's installed. From what I've read around here, the ignition systems on these trucks don't particularly like these plugs, so that could be another reason for some of the various minor problems I've been having. I've ordered a set of COP's, will order a set of Motorcraft plugs, and will hopefully be getting (renting) a Time-sert kit so I can do all 8 holes. I think this entire project warrants an entire new thread! Don't worry, there will be much more than that mentioned.

Sent you an email through the F150online email system.
I think I found your kit in the classifieds... $300 is still pretty high considering I could rent it and just buy and install 8 inserts (which is what I'll probably do).

I am surprised you think $300 is high. Maybe you didn't look at the pictures of the kit. It is like brand new, and the set has one insert missing, and was used once. There is almost $100 worth of insert in the kit.
If your replacing them all, I would rent it as well, as there will no longer be a need to have the kit.
The Time-Sert kit is excellent for this problem; the process is much simpler than I had expected (even after watching the videos). I must say that I was a bi worried at first, but renting the kit from Galaxy saved me a bundle and now my pickup runs like new!!
Hey guys.
1998 4.6 and I blew a plug out of #4 and I think #8 is loose.
I saw it asked a couple pages back but didn't see an answer:
How difficult is it to use these kits on #4?
I like to tinker and do my own work - but I want to make sure this one gets done right.
(also - as of a few months ago I'm not in "so cal" anymore. I'm way over in Minneapolis (don't ask) - otherwise I might take advantage of the BlownSparkPlug guys.)

It just had to be the passenger side rear, the hardest one to get to.
Does anyone know of a shop in the KC area that does these for a decent price??
