Who is in the 100,000 mile club?
100,000 mile club
Guys, when I first got on here to celebrate my 100,000 clock in 2003, I really had no idea I would have kept my 2000 Lariat 4X4 for so long. I now have 204,000 miles on this guy.
I did have an engine blow up at 165,000 miles. A valve spring broke which sent parts flying everywhere. I had a new motor installed and it runs as good as it ever did. The old motor gave me no indication that there was a problem, until it broke.
The body looks as if the vehicle is less than 100,000 miles. All other systems are in great shape and I continually maintain the truck. A couple of interesting facts is I have the original headlights and parking turn signal lights on the front. The fog lights and rear lights have all been replaced once.
I hope the rest of you have had as good of an experience as I have. I plan on buying another F150 when my son graduates from college (2010).

Amsoil synthetic for most of its life... careful care, garaged. Michelins all around for the past 120K (two sets and still on the second!). Good mechanic, good ears and I love this truck! Just stuck an Eaton limited slip in the back and a nice difference.
Only failure was the 'heater core'. Just had a 'oil filler cap' snap inside and STILL trying to figure out how to get it off? But wonderful FORD F-150 '97 with 4.6 and Large cab, short bed...

Oh yeah my horns quit and I need new ones any suggestions for some loud ones so I can let people know how I feel about their driving when they cut me off which seems to be happening on a regular basis lately. Maybe thats why my horns quit.

impressive...
but are these all the exceptions?
I had a 97 F-150 with the 4.2
Bought it new in 97 with 3 miles on it. Drove it 180,000 miles over the course of 10 years before I traded it in.
I had around $1,000.00 worth of repairs over the course of time. Worst was an intake gasket.
I was also rear ended a couple of times in the truck (never got the damage fixed). Abused the heck out of it. Used it for work, hauling scaffold and equipment. Always way over loaded.
Thing was a beast. I figured it out, and with the pay out from insurance co, from the guys who hit me, the total cost, and the repair costs. The truck cost me right around $1,000.00/year to own.
Not too bad IMO.
I was going to keep it when I got my new truck, but the dealer offered me a great deal to trade it in, so away she went.
