F150 v6 4.2L Kills Soon As I Put it In Gear

Help Anyone. Truck has been running horrible before it killed 3 days ago. It had been puttering and stuttering and going very slow. My Husband and I changed the Harmonic Balancer, the Crankshift Position Sensor, Plugs, Wires and Battery and Starter( which died from trying to start it repeatedly) It will now start fine but as soon as it goes into reverse or drive it putts and then kills. We have been racking our brains to figure out what could be next. It sounds good in Park but as soon as it goes in Reverse it sputters and kills. We have checked the fuses and still nothing. Can anybody help us our Lawn care business is suffering the more days we are without a vehicle...

I'd suspect a plugged fuel filter or clogged cats. Could also be a cracked coil pack or dirty fuel injectors.

Have you scanned the OBD2 for trouble codes?

What year is the truck, please? If it's a 05 or newer, it could be a problem with the electronic throttle body. Will it stay running if you give it gas?

It runs good in Park motor sounds strong but as soon as it goes in Reverse it kills. Tried it in Neutral to Drive and it sputters and kills still. The check engine light is not on so it won't give any codes, the coil pack is only 1 year old. Someone stated it could be the Neutral Safety Switch but the guy at Auto Zone said that its rare for them to go out. We are about to look at the torque converter and see if the wheels spin while we jack it up.

Niya, I moved your thread into the V6 Engine Forum. I think you'll get better responses here.

Will it keep running if you hold the brake and give it gas?

NOT the neutral safety switch. No comment on fuel filter or clogged cats?

When we hold the brake and press the gas it cuts off. The only time it runs is when in Park. It sounds good when started then as soon as we go to shift it it will start to sputter and kills. We have been playing process of elimination for 3 days. I often come to the forum looking for solutions but today is the first time I've posted any questions because we are truly stumped!!!

Do you think it could be the fuel pressure regulator? We checked the fuel pump and its good so its the next thing on the list...

Go to Autozone and rent a fuel pressure tester. Minimum is 28 psi, 40 preferred. Get a new fuel filter and the clip release tool while you are there, replace the fuel filter on general principle. It should be changed at least every 30k. If you pull the vacuum hose off the FPR and the pressure doesn't go up about 5 psi or it drips or smells like fuel, the FPR is bad.

Check your codes even if the check engine light is not on. Those light bulbs can burn out. Part of your process of elimination.
