thanks can you pls post a picture(s) when you get the custom cans installed...

do you think this solves the potential generic DI issue (buildup of material on intake port) for this Ford EB engine?

Yes, it solves the problem. I have been monitoring the return tubes to the intake and they are dry as a bone.

assiekeeper it would be great if you could put out a step by step tutorial with pics on doing this very important mod... in any case, if you could please post pics of the finished install with the custom cans that would be great.

IF I could figure out how to post pictures on this board I will. I read the tutorial........but I'm an old guy. I'll figure it out somehow because this mod works and could save owners the dreaded dealer maintenance charges in the future. By the way this will also work for 3.7, 5.0, 6.2 engines also. Oil in the intake of any engine is no good.

aussiekeeper: Thanks for the info, as an old guy as well who really lasted worked on a used 1954 Ford Flathead I am pretty much in the dark with this thread, but concerned. We tow a 7,000 pound trailer with our Eco and really don't want to face the problems associated with what you are all taking about. SO, any guidance and help would be appreciated on how to buy and install these filters.

Congrats on figuring out the problem- But I'm curious if you are missing something. How is it the engineers at Ford didn't think of this? Maybe they know something you don't?

Let me explain in one word: denial. Large corporations and their internal politics many times will deny there is a problem because of potential cost of admitting the problem... they'd rather deny it until the public relations and financial damage is much worse. Happens all the time.

If Ford admitted this or the fix showed up in next years model, then how many screaming Eco owners would come to the dealership demanding this fix?

and yes Aussie.. pls do post the pics and any tutorial ...

From re-reading your posts, it looks like only one engine bank is experiencing excessive oil fumes coming into the intake right?

I have not done any extended driving, so far there is one side bringing it up to the bowl. However, there is oil in the left side tube advancing the bowl. Looks like an extended drive would show results there.

ok so you do need to treat both sides. Well I await your tutorial on installing this before I buy my EB... I don't want to start driving it and building up crud without being able to check for and fix this EGR loop.

can you use something like this (first up on google search for oil air separators): http://www.jegs.com/i/On-3-Performan...ductId=1903859

relevant article just found:
http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=316525

and somebody should call Moroso to make one for the Ford EB:
http://www.moroso.com/catalog/catego...?catcode=18549

lots of other threads on bobistheoilguy.com on this topic... lots of ugly pics of DI engines and crud on valves/stems/ports... I am officially staying away from EB until someone, preferably Ford, explains why this EB DI engine is not going to end up like the others. I have a DI turbo diesel Golf I'll be watching to see if it starts to exhibit power loss and MPG drop. So far at 12K miles it's still perfect.
