Ecoboost getting bad mileage....anyone else?
just at 100 miles, bought 3 days ago, EB 3.73. On way to work, freeway driving with traffic at 60-65, I got 24-25mpg roughly. When I got off freeway, and into city driving dropped down to 15. This thing is like a diesel... getting going off the line sucks down huge gas, but if you take care to feather the pedal on the freeway and not pass alot, you will get pretty good mileage.
update: work commute today... Trip A showed 0.6 gallons used, 18.x mpg for the drive. Not bad for 1/4 city, 3/4 freeway. at a smidge under 3/4 tank the truck has run 165 miles. The dealer filled it up on sale.
I am not going to like filling that 36 gallon bathtub up with gas though... thank goodness it's gonna be regular, not premium. Here in Cali we are at roughly $4.40 or so for unleaded reg.

Well, I took my truck on a longer trip over the last couple of weeks. 157" Screw, 4x4, 3.37. I seem to be getting somewhat reasonable highway mileage ~18.x, but my in town mileage continues to be terrible, ~11-12 mpg. I turned on the display that shows what gear the transmission is using and was a little surprised to see how low a speed it uses the higher gears for just cruising on a flat road. It uses 4th gear at 25 mph, 5th at 35, and 6 at 40. This does keep the rpm's really low, but I think it might be bogging the engine down too much such that when I accelerate any it has to use a bunch of fuel.
Has anyone else watched what gear is being used as a function of speed? Especially, those of you that are getting reasonable in town mileage.
Thanks.

seriously. my dad's semitruck gets better mpg. and even though i've bought a new 2012 and spent >$30k on it, Ford's service to address this is negligible. i get a "oooh that's terrible!" and they won't anything about it. The sales ppl with a 5.0L get better mileage. and basically the reason i bought the truck, so i could commute, haul and get ~20mpg. So my options are... wince when i watch all the BS they spew on Ford ecoboost commercials and fuel economy, try not to curse everytime I see an ad in the paper - b/c in Canada - they claim 29-30mpg...!! (metric gal vs. imperial gal) sounds even better, so my difference is even worse.
Did you hear about the huge news on Hyuandai's false mileage claims?
Yep. They're paying out car owners for their overclaim.
"The automakers will reimburse owners for the overstated fuel efficiency for as long as they own the cars, plus 15 percent. Hyundai said a typical owner of a vehicle in Florida driving 15,000 miles a year could get a $88 refund this year, in addition to future refunds for as long as they own the car."

I wish.
Check your tire psi's maybe you have below 30's instead of upper 30's, big difference now. Disconnect the battery for 15 and let it relearn. Maybe it is stuck in richer mode for a couple of tanks. Not knowing what you haul/tow, probably not a 38" fifth wheel but instead a boat try 5 th gear. It will do 18/19 mpg by itself. Just lock out 6th. You will have better turbo/torque response also.

18.5 to 19.5
Live in a small town. Around town, a few miles/day 18.5. On the highway (mountain driving) 19.5. @ 65-75. Only have 1,700 miles on vehicle. 2012 FX4 EB 18" stock. Maybe 100# in bed. I'm hoping for better when broken in. Guess I'll live with it, either way. Love the truck.
I live in north Idaho, running high octane w/out ethinal 91 and I get a about 16 in town and 21-22 highway. Towing a 7000 load I get about 12-13. Would be better if I didn't tow steep hills at 70...
use it if ya got it!!! I will also be adding a 91 tune from livernois soon! Sounds like you get at least 1-2 mpg better on evey tune.

The TSB is 12-10-19 and replaces the CAC's in those trucks already built.
It also looks like the new trucks are coming in with yet a third version of CAC with different connections and ports (which couldn't be retro fitted to existing trucks)

We just did a 2200+ trip from California to Denver and averaged 18.0 mpg for the whole trip. That included over 80 mph through parts of Utah and Colorado. Ours is a super crew with 3.73 gears. I am really happy with this truck. We have over 7000 miles on her since buying the truck in early Sept.
3.55 rear here, left my Trip B to count over 2200 miles and I averaged 17.3mpg mixed city and highway driving. Going 75mph keeps me about 20mpg on a highway trip, but between Austin and Dallas I can get almost 24mpg due to lower speed on I-35.
I am getting around 23.5 at 65 mph and that goes to about 17 to 19 above 70. Got 12 from az to miss pulling around 5000 lbs. 2011 lariat 4x4 screw 373 gears 5.5 bed ecoboost One other thing it never felt the trailer behind it amazed at the pulling power compared to the 2006 power stroke I traded in on it. I love it so far!
