Ecoboost getting bad mileage....anyone else?
If you look, I was not saying the V8 is better, but explaining why I thought EB owners that complain about gas mileage have a right to feel deceived when they don't get at or even near the advertised mpg. It is the only engine in these trucks that had that problem. To take it a step further, since many drivers are unable to get close to the posted mpg, it could be argued that Ford is fooling EPA.

Regardless of how they are driven, some vehicles that are identical won't get advertised mileage, some will, and some even get better. It's been this way forever. Some of them that don't get advertised mileage have something wrong with them, some just don't. It happens. Some can be fixed, some can't.
By the way, I *DID* find this on Ford's website, under "Additional Disclosures":
No sir. We have some threads here from 5.0 owners that are getting crappy mileage too.

2. EPA-estimated city/hwy mpg. See fueleconomy.gov for fuel economy of other engine/transmission combinations. Actual mileage will vary.
It is the only engine in these trucks that had that problem.
That disclosure has been there since they started posting mpg on stickers. To me there should have been more on the EB. There are no ways near the number of 5.0, 5.4, 3.7 or 6.2 owners that have posted that they feel deceived. It is what it is.

Gentlemen,
I get frustrated to no end that I keep getting told how to drive the truck. I have set the truck on cruise control at 55 mph on dead flat roads in the central valley of California (no wind) and the truck will not exceed 19 mpg. The EPA test requires a long duration at 65 mph. Whenever I set the cruise control at 65, the truck barely gets 18 mpg.
GLC has it correct, in my opinion, that vehicles that do not get the advertized mileage could have something wrong with them.

If you want high mileage, buy a Prius and expect me to run you off of the road..........especially if it has an OBAMA sticker on it.
No, mostly highway. But what I am saying is that if I were going to have to relearn how to drive to get the mileage estimated, they should have said so. Plus, if I can't drive normally, can't use the turbos and get decent mileage, then why have them. It's the lack of warning and lack of notice on Fords part that bothers me. It borders on deceptive advertising, in my opinion.
You can deceive or lie to someone by not telling them all the facts, knowing that they may make false assumptions. This is what I see.

You guys continue to distort the dialog. It's the fact that many divers are unable to achieve the advertised mileage, not that they wanted some super number. Just something responsibly close to what was in the sticker. Read the posts without colored mind set.

I have owned 4 F-150s since 2001 and this one gets much better mileage than any of the others. It gets a solid 3+MPG over my 2005 which was the closest to compare it to and I drive my 2011 harder.
I would bet a six pack that I could get better mileage out of a truck that a person is complaining about than the person doing the complaining.
I still say that in almost all of these cases the problem is the driver. I have 56,000+ on my truck and the lifetime average is 16.9MPG. The sticker on my truck showed a combined average to be 17MPG. I'd say that is pretty much spot on especially considering I drive fast, pull trailers, drive off road, let the truck warm up, almost always lead the pack away from stoplights, use craptacular E10 and do most of the other things that hurt mileage. However, I do used the cruise, I don't fluctuate speed while cruising, keep my tires filled and don't keep a bunch of extra junk in the truck to carry around.

The problem with forums is they make everyone an e-hypochondriac. People hear of a problem and automatically assume the worst even though it is no where close to being true.
In my experience, Ford trucks seem to suffer a worse mpg 'penalty' from crappy fuel compared to other vehicles. And no, I don't have scientific proof. Just an observation from years of ownership of multiple vehicles and occasional trips where I filled up out of the state.
