Ecoboost getting bad mileage....anyone else?
15.3 MPGs lifetime average with 34.5" mud terrains. About 50/50 driving.... 50%city 50% highway, 50% driving conservative 50% flogging the crap out of it. Given my tires and my driving style I'm happy with 15.3 MPGs.

My god that thing is uglier than a mud fence! I bet it has to sneak up on a gas pump. It looks like they took the grill from a F-150, the grill surround and headlights from a Ram, the bumper from a Silverado and duct taped/super glued it onto a dead and bloated whale. Toyota is doing what the always do, copy and steal other companies ideas.
Back to real trucks, I averaged mid 15s today in my EB while towing cars for about 6 hours through the Ozarks. It was strange seeing the trans down shift more and rev higher going downhill to slow the truck down instead of going up the hill. I tried to stay around 60-65 on all but the worst AR roads and the truck held 6th gear on all but the steepest of hills, tranny temp was never higher than 194*.

Can the dealer do anything to my ECM?
My buddy says heavy carbon buildup in tailpipe
Could indicate I'm running rich for some reason?
Any ideas guys???
Mine always seem to have a lot of "black" residue in the exhaust pipe, and the best I could get with 33s on 20s was 14.5 MPG, the are peppy and fun trucks but I prefer my New 5.0 over the EcoBoost.
rczegeny, you are not running rich. Go to ANY car in a parking lot and see the tips. You are just SOL'd with your set-up. 12 mpg with 6" lift and 35" Mud terrains is actually pretty damn good.

I drove mine 75 miles at 60 to 65 mph and Got 19.1 mpg. Jumped on the interstate and ran at 80mph and got 15.5. The only thing I have done is a resonator delete and pulled the those silly little things out of the intake tubes, and took out the snout in the air box.
3.73 gears.
3.73 gears.
i have 3.55 gear ratio, maybe thats hurting me? id consider changing if it would help. to be honest i would just like decent mileage when i drive conservative...
id say im somewhere around 60-70 percent highway driving, but cant get any better than 12mpg, and i see here with similar setups, that guys are getting better...maybe its that im using only 87 octane...and ontario canada is known to have quality gasoline, so its not crap gas...
Do you use your cruise control? I have found it to make a huge difference in mileage. I have 3.55 gears and can knock out low to mid 20s on flat roads if I keep the speed under 70 with the CC. Just using my foot to control the speed doesn't yield the same results.
I have a 2 week old '13 Ecoboost. Just got back from a trip to okc last weekend, and I'm not too happy. 16.1 mpg, 91 octane E10 with cruise set on 75-80 in a HEAVY crosswind. Halfway back home I stopped at a Flying J and refilled with 87 octane. It dropped to 15.8 with very little wind. It wouldn't bother me so much, but the worst highway mpg I ever got in my '09 with 5.4l was 17.8, with a high of 19.8 repeatable any time I filled with 100% gasoline. The upside is that I'm getting 14.6 in town so far compared to 12-12.3 in the '09. All mileage is on paper...I don't trust the gauge all that much. They need to knock the little green leaf off! My next fill I'll get the ethanol free and see what happens, but so far I'm feeling like a sucker...

My gas milage has improved significantly since the last tank of gas. I went from 16mpg to 19 mpg (50/50 city/highway).
Changes
1. Weather has warmed up from an average commute temp of 45 degrees to 65 degrees.
2. Changed my gasoline from 87 octane chevron (techron) to Shell 93 (V-power)
3. Performed my first oil change at 5000 miles.
4. using the cruise control a little more when the road is open.
I am getting ready to go on a long trip and will top off the tank with the Shell 93 and see how it goes.
I am thinking that either the quality of gas or the outside air temperature has a big influence. However with 19mpg I am rather please we will see if it holds. When I get back I will reduce the octane to 87 and see if I can isolate the octane variable.

My lifetime is indeed about 15.5mpg however. Just because in town when that turbo spins up mileage drops terribly. So if you do a lot of highway miles, then your MPG will be what you wanted from an Ecoboost. If you drive in town, it may be closer to what a V8 would provide.
