Ecoboost Verdict?

I have a SCREW with a 315 rear end and 17,000 miles. Over the past several weeks I have been closely checking mileage. Most of my miles are on Interstates and freeways.
The results are:
At 80 - 85 mph over 200+ miles, the mileage has been 17.1.
At 75 - 80 mph over 200 + miles, the mileage has been 19.9.
At 70 - 75 mph over 200 miles, the mileage has been 21.4.
Last weekend I decided to give it an extreme test. I traveled 274 miles. 61 miles of the 274 was on two-lane road. The rest was four lane. I never exceeded 60 mph. The cruise control was set at 60 mph (GPS) whenever possible. The hand calculated mileage and computer mileage was 28.5 mpg. I have to make the same run tomorrow and will repeat to double check. This is exactly what I expected with the 315 rear end and Ecoboost.

^ good God. I'm at 1400 miles and have never seen anything over 18mpg. That's going 65-70mph for 30 or so miles on the highway. My 50/50 avg is 14.6 mpg since I bought it. I reset all avgs and fill up max with 2 clicks everytime. My FX4 is NOT living up to the MPG hype. I know the 20's and being a 4x4 aren't helping. The current tank is 14.8mpg with 30% city and 60% highway. I have a few full throttle romps on this tank (about 8). Otherwise it's a fun truck.

Now keep in mind I live in Florida where it is flat as a pancake and the road I travel to and from work (when the pic's were taken) was just resurfaced so it is very smooth.
I fill to the first click and hang up the hose... I reset the average mpg screen and trip "A" at every fill. I leave trip "B" for a lifetime average. I reset it the day I bought the truck and haven't touched it since.
My average since buying the truck is 19.9
Only changes in the truck from oem is I changed to a K&N air filter and I put Amsoil oil and filter in it at 1000 miles...Other then that she's bone stock.
My brother is averaging 19.6 with his and he pulls a trailer allot.

Although im only at just about 600 miles I have never seen below 15.5 MPG and I have the FX4 as well in a SCREW. Out of the 600 id say maybe 50 of those are highway miles, everything else is in town, nor more than 40 MPH, lots of stop/go and idling.
Hopefully yours will improve with mileage.

Many areas get low energy content fuel, for air quality reasons.
IMO, the energy content of the fuel plays a big part in real world mpg for Ford trucks.
I've been on this site since 1999, and I've noticed time and time again the people who get the best mileage live in rural areas where their fuel is real gasoline. Many of us are forced to use some EPA prescribed ethanol blend 'clean' formula with fewer BTU's per gallon.
FWIW, I've seen references that energy content per gallon of US gasoline varies by about 8% around the nation. Not sure if that accounts for the ethanol (our gas is 10% ethanol in my area). If my gas has 10% less energy than yours, I'd expect to use at least 10% more of it. Maybe more since I have to use more pedal more of the time, and the truck is tuned from the factory for better gas.

Bought a new '11 Screw XLT w/ the EB engine last Monday. While the dealership left a bad taste in my mouth (extremely high pressure sales manager), the truck has been amazing. What amazes me over and over is when I take a turn at about 20 mph and then accelerate normal. It seems like the transmission should shift down a gear, but instead it just pulls back up to 35 mph. Quite an amazing feat considering the RPMs were down around 1000 when I began to accelerate.
I have also read over and over about the exhaust note, or lack of one to be more precise. I think the truck actually sounds kinda neat. It isn't that GM 4.3 sound that I was expecting. Not even like a small Japanese V6. It has more of a refined, but powerful sound in the cab. There has also been complaints of the turbos whining. I really don't get that either. I kinda wish my turbos would make a bit more noise. That whine coming from a truck can only mean one thing ...... power, and lots of it. Whenever I hear a Cummins I6 start whining, it reminds me of the sound coming from a locomotive when it just starts moving. 100% raw torque. That sound is more meaningful than anything you can ever get out of a gas V8.
I can't wait to push that 1,000 mile mark so I can hook my boat on the back and drag it 50 miles to have it put into storage. I normal dread the thought of putting my boat into storage, but this year I am looking forward to it.

Just for kicks, on the freeway I reset my B meter. It jumped to 22 mpg then rapidly dropped to 18mpg. I had to keep my foot constantly (lightly) on the gas just to maintain 60-65mph. When a small overpass came up it dropped to 16-17 because I had to roll into the gas a little more. I thought my city MPG average was keeping me from going over 18 while on the freeway, but I guess not. It looks like 18mpg going 65 is all she's got. The only vehicle I ever owned which got /gets claimed MPG is our 2010 V6 Fusion. That damn thing on a recent road trip to Vegas going 75-90mph no less and large mountain passes got 29mpg. That was with 4 people and weekend luggage. Feel bad giving that car up in December (lease).

Morning Everyone!
I just returned from a trip with my truck.....Great Falls, MT to Bosie, ID., and back. The entire trip was recorded on the "A" Trip Odometer shown below.
I traveled all interstate, with the cruise set at 67 MPH. On the trip there, upon arriving the average was 16.8mpg. On the way home it went to 16.9mpg average (both on the trip odometer A). For about the last 80 miles I caught a strong tailwind, which pushed the average to 17.0.
Considering the truck now has over 6K miles, and the top speed for the trip was 67 MPH......good, bad, or indifferent, I personally am very unhappy with those numbers.
I did the calculations by hand, and got within .01 of what the dash had, so it's accurate.
The photos were taken as soon as I pulled back in my driveway and shut it down.

^ Well, I'm getting the exact same mileage and so are a few others. It sounds like guys getting mpg in the 20's are factory freaks or us mid teens are duds. Tough to say. Ed, are you 4x4 also? I know 2wd EB's are getting advertised mileage. The only way I average over 15mpg is if there is a 100+ mile freeway trip thrown in, otherwise look at my signature on the trucks lifetime avg.

I am somewhere in the middle of the rest of you. I can easily get 20-21 mpg if I set the cruise control at 55 mph, but that starts to drop off quick as I push 65-70 mph.
On the up side, I took my boat to get it serviced and put into storage yesterday. I am pushing the 4000 lb mark with the boat and trailer combo. I got 15.8 mpg on that 48 mile trip (half highway at 65 and half 2 lane road at 55). I am pretty happy with that because that is very similar to what my 2006 did without a trailer behind it.

Similar here, which has been the case for EVERY vehicle I've ever owned. Anything beyond 60mph has had a negative effect on fuel mileage, especially on these big windsails we're driving.
