I want to buy a new 2011 F-150 but am having troubles deciding which engine. I love my 5.4 and tried ordering a 5.0 but the dealer salesman is pushing the EcoBoost and seemingly won't take my order. He claims the smaller engine will pull my trailer, etc. I just don't know. Will it last over 200,000 miles like my other Ford engines? What do you guys think? Do you plan on pulling trailers or carry weight, or is your F150 not a work truck? Heard anything bad about the new 5.0?

I think what ever engine you get whether it be Ford, Chevy, or Dodge, etc, it is a crap shoot whether it will last 200,000 miles. Take care of them and they should. I liked my 5.4 especially after having it tuned. I test drove the 5.0 and the Ecoboost and liked them both, however I chose the Ecoboost becuase I was hopeing for a little better gas mileage and I felt it had more pep in its step compared to the 5.0. Ultimately you are the one that has to decide. I don't think you would be sorry with wichever one you picked.

Better gas mileage on the ecoboost isnt exactly turning into a true statement. From the numbers i've been seeing, the 5.0 is getting 18-20 and the eco is getting around 17-19.

If the eco would have gotten low 20's or even a solid 20. i would have been sold, but for pretty much the same mileage numbers, the 5.0 is my choice.

As I stated earlier. I was hopeing for better gas mileage. You are correct for some including me, the better mpg's hasn't shown up yet. I am still optimistic though.

Expect about the same mileage for a little while until the engine breaks in.

Like I mentioned earlier, mine now has over 2,000 miles on it and my best tank so far is 18.3 combined city/hwy. I do find that if I drive over 70mph with an extra 500lbs in the truck, it will drop down to low 17's. If I am doing 70-75 in hills and wind, 16.5mpg

Disappointing? A little, but the power, smoothness, quietness, and never needing to down shift is awesome!

I was sold on the EB, but find myself wavering a tad. Comments like this keep me interested in the EB! Cruise control on my 11 year old 4.6 is useless, unless I were to move to Kansas. Even the slightest grade causes a downshift and the RPM's to jump tremendously just to climb a slight grade. Driving w/o cruise and anticipating hill climbs (common here in western VA) is the only way to drive this thing and attempt at getting decent mileage.

Smile My New FX 4- 3-4 weeks away!!

I just traded in my 2006 FX4 (had it 5.5 years 152 000 kms) engine light came on for the first time about a month ago. Went to the local Ford dealer for service while waiting saw a big Ford banner stating up to $8000 off new truck and $1000 in dealer options! Liked my old FX4 so much that i ordered/bought a new 2011 FX4!!
Leather, Luxury package, Navigation, sony 700 watt stereo-voice activation-sync, tailgate step, 20"pirelli's (same tire as on my 2006)..everything except rear camera.

As ordered $52 000...they took off $8000 = my himming and hawing gained another $4500 + $1000 dollar lockable Tonneau cover was free! All in ... $ 39500 less trade of 11K+ $ 28 500 + HST
I cant wait to receive the Truck...have been loyal GM guy the first 20 years of my Truck life! No more ...Ford all the way! They make the most dependable, modern luxury type trucks on the market today. I will be driving on the road with the 700 watts pumping- Navi running...searching out GM trucks -but they wont hear me coming from all the road noise GM drivers have to settle for...shshhh.

Almost forgot...I skipped the EB got the 5 Litre engine instead...for the $200 I save a year (sorry-thanks to Egypt/Kadhaffi- $300) I wouldn't payback the $1000 Ecoboost option price for 4 years. More importantly this is the first year this engine is in the stable - will see how it evolves and maybe get it in 2016 for the next FX 4...In my opinion "only German's make reliable small block (V6) supercharged engines"' and it took them awhile to figure it out. I have had a Mercedes SLK 32 AMG for 8 years- 94 000kms- still purring ...4000 lbs truck pushed with a V6- the physics to me, just don't add up? Those turbo's will cost a pretty penny to fix after the warranty!

But yet, 6 cyclinder single turbo engines pull 80,000lbs all day every day. Look at tractors and older tank engines, they all had anywhere from 80-200hp tops and pulled around 60 tons.

really? you are comparing a straight 6 diesel engine designed to pull 60 tons to a v6 in a half ton truck?

There were gas engines in old WWII tanks that cranked out about 180-200hp.

Sherman was one of them.

The ecoboost is a tough built engine. Livernois has cranked their ecoboost up to 15lbs of boost and been drag racing it with slicks. All is well and it runs stellar as well. Mid 12's in the quartermile.

Livernois has an EB F150? Got a link or anything? I have been following Livernois and 5-star's raptor stuff but would love to see whats cooking on the EB side of things I have seen their other EB stuff already and liked everything except the exhausts they where putting on them..
