The only real big problem I know of is withthe 97 4.2s. They have a recall on the timing covers, I am not too sure on the detailes of the recall.

Cool

That's the best news I've heard in a while.
Mine just started leaking last week. And, the dealer I bought it from wanted 450.00 to fix it. THANKS

Just call the dealer and ask them about any recalls, and they will ask for your V.I.N.
They can get all the info direct from F.M.C.
I was told about another recall that has to do with the fuel line. It's being fixed in the morning, but it has to stay all day. The timing cover is listed as an 8 hour job in the repair books.

Exclamation

The 97 4.2 V-6 had a recall on the front cover gasket, if you are looking to buy, then buy a newer one (98 on up). If you have one, you better hope that you're not too late in getting one to the ford dealer, or coolant will leak into your oil, damaging your engine to the point that you will need a new one! I don't like that particular engine, so I'm getting a 4.6, at least their gaskets dont leak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My wife works as a Ford/Honda Service manager. She told me that the 97' Model year V6 is the only one that had any problems. It should be noted that when comparing all three engines (4.2, 4.6, & 5.4), the V6 has been the most reliable and trouble free.

Cool

I just got mine back with a new engine about two weeks ago. They said the timing cover crack caused antifreeze to contaminate the oil and replaced it for FREE. Now that is the best type of fix, I think.
