my runs were on a half tank of gas. also the 2nd one i think i let off too early. i mean i think i let off before i passed the finish line. i had a worse launch but my speed caught up at the 1/8 mile mark. here is the comparison.
run 1 run 2
1/8th ET 11.4602 11.4675 ----slower time
1/8th mph 62.46mph 63.06mph---higher speed
1000'ET 14.7952 14.7865-----faster time
1/4th ET 17.5800 17.6003-----slower time
1/4thmph 80.37mph 77.33mph---slower speed

my 1/4ET on the 2nd run should have been about a 17.56-17.57@about 81mph. we will see this wednesday. now i will get in the throttle and wait longer till i let off and also my air filter is clean now. i will try to remember to take off my hitch and my spare tire before i go too. hopefully drop into the low 17's next time.

flareside is heavier??? hmmm i learned something new today...
and yes the 3.08 is not very good for acceleration, my 04 heritage had them and it was ok but compare the 04 heritage @3897Lbs with 3.08 to my 08 @ 4364Lbs 3.55LS. the 0-60 so far is the same at 9.58(fastest recorded so far) in the 08 i have to shift to 3rd at about 50mph so there is the added shift time in there, but my 08 gets to 100 about 5 seconds quicker than my 04 did

The 500 lbs is not slowing you down by 2 seconds...

On a relatively stock, "normal everyday vehicle" 100 lbs equates to .1 in the 1/4 miles.

Meaning, if you lighten your truck by 200 lbs, you'll run .2 quicker in the 1/4 mile.

I took off my spare and tailgate for kicks and giggles and I felt less resistance in the lower end, so it would help, but be careful because that is less weight on the rear tires so if you spin your not going anywhere.

spare- ~100 lbs = ~.1 sec more
tailgate ~45 lbs = ~.04 sec more

nothing to get excited about.

do they charge you to do track runs? I think it would be pretty pointless to run a stock 4.2L until you start getting more mods on there

Our track has 20$ for an all nighter too, but i only ran two times. You get crazy good traction at the track.

1-the engines are still 202hp but at different rpms. lower peak is usually quicker but it depends more on the whole powerband which we dont know yet so it might not be as "near-damn identical" as you think...
2-you took off your spare tire and tailgate for kicks and giggles..why is it a crime for anyone to go to the track with their stock truck for kicks and giggles?
3-not all people have the money to go out there and get a full exhaust and a tuner and efans and are pretty much runnign it they way it will be for the next few years
4-run it stock first, then if you get upgrades it is easier to tell how much the upgrades are helping
5-a .14 difference is actually a pretty good one. what if you had a 10.01 time? you shave .14 off, you are now in the 9s, which would be a reason to get excited about
6- i just wanted to break 80mph in the 1/4 which i did and im excited about it because the last car i had that would do that was 4 yrs ago and it was a 1990 5th avenue.
7-never got to take my 96 trans am to a track because i didnt know about the track being near me yet.
8-no matter how slow the vehicle, it is still fun, if you bring a buddy along you can brag if you win
9-going to the track sure beats getting your drivers liscense suspended for street racing

x2
yeah i paid $12. its $10 to watch or $12 to race, what would you do??? and it is 5pm to 830pm time trials (as many times as you can go) then 830 starts elims. i got there at like 8pm last week so i only got 1 time trial and got eliminated 1st round so i only got 2 runs.
and there is nothing wrong with being curious what your vehicle will do.

1.) .14 give or take... But taking the spare out is easy, the hitch would be more of a pain in the...

2.) Putting your tailgate down will do absolutely nothing, but INCREASE drag at higher speeds. Taking it OFF like Raptor said will get you around .04...

So, take off your spare, hitch, tailgate, and running with a near empty tank... .18 (spare, hitch, tailgate,) + .16 (near empty tank) will get around .34 seconds faster. Could also remove your passenger seat... Faster 1/4 mile times for a lot cheaper than any mod.

I remember a car/tuner magazine doing the same thing and basically stripping a car down to it's bare body, frame, motor, trans, and axels... It ran A LOT faster than stock.

thanks. the spare tire is easy and i am pretty sure my hitch is just bolted on so that will hopefully be easy. except it has been raining the past few days so i never had the chance to do any of it. looks like just spare is coming off for this run. i ran mine at a half tank last time because the track is about 60 miles away from me and i dont know the area very well to know where gas stations are so i didnt want to not be able to make it back home lol. i thought about the seat but it has that stupid airbag sensor in it and its probably just a plug but with my luck it wouldnt work when i put it back in. plus i pretty much WANT to run it the way it would be when im driving. i wanted to race my buddy's 04 V8 silverado but it is in the shop right now from a run in with a guard rail trying to pick up a pack of gum off the floor lol, we wanted to race our trucks as is just to see. mine just has a cold air intake on it and his is stock. and tonight is going to be the last day the track is open for the rest of the year. so i wont be able to race him. we raced on the street about 5 times, 2 from a stop and 3 from a 40mph roll. i beat him twice on a roll and the other 3 he beat me. but now he put bigger tires and aftermarket rims on so it is slower, he even has trouble peeling out now, which is good and bad for me because i was hopng he would spin off the line and thats where i would get my jump on him but now he will just grip probably. i will try to take off my spare tire and hitch but i donno. either way now i know it will break 80mph so im happy but still want to see if i can get it faster. i wish i would have known about the track when i had my first truck. i would have taken ALL my vehicles ive had up there. most were slow as hell but i am still curious.

well i went to the track again today. it was like 49 degrees outside so it was kinda cold so the cooler intake air should have been better for my truck. and also let me just say, clean your air filter before you run. my fastest with a dirty filter was a 17.58@80.37mph. well today i went back and here were my runs. now with a clean filter on my intake...
run 1 was 17.0475@81.08mph
run 2 was 16.9378@81.66mph

that is a difference of 1.29mph and .6422 seconds. difference of over a half second just from cleaning my filter. but again, my reaction time killed me in my elimination run. i ran against a 96 dodge ram reg cab shortbed 4x4 V8(dont know if it was 318 or 360) his dial in was 16.92 and mine was 17.10
well here was the race...i was told to roll up my window while i was staged and right when i got done rolling it up, i got the green so i barely got to rev it up to 2500 like i wanted. that could be the reason for the bad reaction but my reaction times are bad anyways so it doesnt matter i guess...

reaction-ram-.1585----me -.7823
60ft-----ram-2.4295---me- 2.4735
330ft----ram-7.0407---me- 7.1188
1/8ET---ram- 10.8718--me- 10.9510
1/8mph--ram-64.23----me- 64.65mph
1000ftET-ram-14.1648--me-14.2004
1/4ET----ram-17.0195--me-16.9378

depending on your gearing, you should be able to hit the 16's. i did it today.

what is 1-2 more hp at a lower rpm. even 10 hp isnt much of a difference, besides what you want is torque, because you are losing ~32% of it down the driveline.

2&3 - where did i say it was a crime? im just saying theres not much fun in a stock vehicle. instead of $20/day to run stock at the track, save a little and go get those freebie mods that are under $100.

If you want to get technical i took my spare and tailgate off when i was doing an over and under detailing of my truck. i took pretty much everything off and before i put it back on i drove it down the road to get all the water out from under the chassis.

and im 18 earning $5.50/hr. I'm willing to bet you are making more than me.
