I'm glad some of us are sticken with the 4.2's for the long haul. In the first couple weeks of owning my truck I hated the laggish 4.2, but after reading up on em, not only are they more reliable than the V8s, they're way easier to work on. Since then I've been puttin all the bolt on mods I could possibly find on my truck, as well as doin all of the worthy maitnance, and I now love my truck and I'm really glad I bought it. Hell, my truck beats my buddies 5.4 due to all the problems he's havin with it

Yeah... I like the 4.2l and the standard shift... last of the good ole days of reliability.

*sigh*

At least I know my truck will start up tomorrow and I'll be able to do some running around.

Reminds me of my '99... you come to rely on it so much, and it becomes a norm of your life. Like you really don't have to worry about it. Then I bought my '03 Escape... I couldn't rely on that piece of junk to save my life. Then I buy my '07... and so far, no problems, and the reliability is beyond excellent. I hope after 50k, I can treat it like my '99 and have transportation become a nonexistant problem for me. My '99 and '07 have never left me stranded... that '03 Escape left me stranded 10+ times.

I miss my '99 but I love my '07.

I really want to find the owner of my '99 and just give them like 10k for it... heck, who ever has owned it, only put about 28k on it so far according to carfax. Maybe next year... it's going to awkward finding the person and hope and pray they don't think I'm stalking them or trying to pull a quicky. But I'm sure if I show them credible reasoning, I'm sure I can get it back from them.

However, before I even knock on the door, I'd look the truck over a little bit.

I just bought a 2008 F150 today brand new off the lot with 11 miles on it

Just the basic XL, and like my 2000 xl was, basic with the 4.2 and a 5 speed. Only way i will drive, Im only 17, but i cant stand automatics. My 4.2 in the 2008 doesent pull quite as hard as the 2000 did but its a bigger truck, Still gets the job done

I'd love to see it as well. I first learned to drive a '69 F-100 with the big V8.
