2009 F-150 (read the announcement)

BOO!

No more manual transmission, no more V6. Guess I'd better try to keep mine running forever. You will be losing a customer eventually, Ford.

Yep sir!!! x2 x2 x2 on that one...

Ford is making a big, big mistake... I guess they didn't learn enough when they didn't have it in the '04 NBS... oh well.

I'm glad I've got mine in stick.

glc... If I were you... I'd keep it running well. I'm not going to do something stuuuupid and sell my truck... still ticks me off I couldn't get a supercab 4x4 with the v6 or v8 and stick in the NBS. I was really looking forward to it.

Actually.... I might make a petition to FoMoCo... I'm just sick of this!!!

I will get a lot of people to sign it. Including local and national businesses that use fleet trucks and prefer stick shift.

I thought I read there was a 4-Speed or a 6 Speed Auto?

Yeah, no v-6, but they are saying the 4.6 2V is just as efficient.

I had a V6 manual F150 before, but these new F150s are too heavy for V6 engines. The 4.6L 2V will give better torque/hp and get the same mpg than the V6, so where's the problem there?

I do hope they add a manual in the future, but it's a nitch market for full size manual trucks, and they are probably having issues finding a manual to handle the weight and torque requirements for this truck.

I agree, the V6 just isnt enough to haul the truck and much else. I had one and got 17 mpg everywhere I went, city and hiway. Now I have the 5.4 and get 16 in the city and 18-19 on the hiway. So whats the advantage of the V6?

The advantage of the V6 is ease of maintenance. You can keep your fancy overhead cams, plugs buried in the top of the engine under the fuel rails, COP's, etc.

The M5OD can handle the 4.6 just fine.

I don't need a heavy duty truck - maybe the new F-100 when it comes out will be what I need as long as the interior is comfortable. A Ranger with a 3.0 or a *pushrod* 4.0 and a stick would actually do everything I need but the interior is too small for my liking.

I haven't heard about a new F100 , But I would buy something between a F150 and a Ranger. The F150 is a little bigger than I need most days and a Ranger feels a bit cramped in the cab most days.
A mid-size pickup with a 4-5 cylinder diesel and a 7' bed I would buy tomorrow.

The F-100 is the Ranger frame, but a totally different body. Probably going to follow the F-150 lines I'm guessing. Still a 1/4 ton pick-up. Dunno about the engine options.

Doubt it. But its a possibility. If you guys get one, plz shut off the diesel whenever you order from a Mky'Ds or Wendy's or BK's drive thru, you guys don't know how loud those things reverberate in our headsets!

MPG is an advantage. I don't know why you got 17 mpg everywhere on yours, but I get 24 mpg highway on mine.

If I want to do some major hauling, that's what my F-250 SuperDuty V-10 is for.

they are dropping manual transmissions for emissions reasons. They are argueing that a computer will shift at the perfect time and lower emissions.

Every morning my truck stays in 3rd too long and wont hit OD going up onto the highway. I have to completely let off the throttle before it drops into OD.

I enjoy driving a manual as much as the next guy (See Focus zx3 manual in my garage), but I think you guys need to seriously let it go. It's not the end of the world, and the world does not evolve around LESS THAN 1% of the customer base!

You all keep thinking you're going to get justice by not buying a new Ford, and somehow that will tech them a lesson, uh, hello? It's called a calculated cost. They will save more money not offering a manual then they would make if they offered it. Period.

End of discussion. sorry!

Probably not right-away, but there will probaly be some market pressure there when Toyota brings out their Tacoma diesel in 2010. The UK diesel version of the Tacoma has a base 2.5l diesel that gets about 34mpg average (US)
