Exclamation Ok, where is the code for the tranny on the doorjamb?

After looking this weekend, i couldn't figure out which heading stood for the transmission. I've got the 5.4L, so i think it's safe to say that i have the 4R70W, but i want to be positive. I'm trying to change tranny fluid soon. I think i have thouroughly cornfused myself

On the Vehicle Certification Label it says "TRANS". The letter below signifies yours.

The Transmission Codes are:

M - Manual, 5 speed, overdrive M5OD.
U - Automatic, 4 speed, 4R70W.
E - Automatic, 4 speed, E40D

Another way to know what fluid to use is check the dipstick. It's say Mercon or Mercon V. The 4R100 cannot use Mercon V so that would rule out that transmisison.

The 5.4 can have either the 4r70w or the 4r100

With an "E" code you could have either the E4OD or the 4R100. The 4R100 replaced the E4OD in 1998.
