    Obviously none of what you changed would affect your problem. The TCC solenoid CAN'T cause no third gear. That was a waste of time and money. The shift solenoids can't cause that, either. The only thing it could be is a problem in the direct clutch. To get more in depth look up Darrin Burch on this site. He knows a lot more about this trans than I do.

    hi mark hopefully you have heard of this problem before. when my truck shifts into 3rd it hits neutral and i have to push the O/D button to turn the O/D off and i can drive in 2nd. it started off when it would go to shift to 3rd i would have to let off the throttle and let the rpms come down and then it would engage and be fine until i stopped and then i would have to do it over again until one day i left a stop light and it quit going into 3rd all together. the O/D light does not come on or flash only the service engine light does. i had the code read and its p0743. i went and got a new tcc solenoid and checked the harness that runs along the passenger side of the truck the best i could because i could not get it all the way out of the truck and it wasnt burnt nor did it have any damage so yesterday i replaced the shift solenoids and the hard plastic wire harness and it still does the same thing.

    today i ran a jumper wire down from the harness conector to the solenoid plug on the trans and when i unplugged it i noticed it was soaked in trans fluid. i dont know if the plug being soaked in trans fluid is causing my problem or not because the connection on the other side is inside the trans and constantly under fluid. i ran the jumper wire on the violet/yellow stripe wire and that didnt help so maybe a ground ? i appredciate you taking your time to read this

    The grinding noise when you put it in park points towards a problem in the transfer case. With the trans in park will the truck roll, or does park hold it?

    Mark please help! I have a 97 Expedition 5.4 Xlt 4X4. E40D Trany / 4406 Borg Transfer Case. 3 months ago i replaced my tranny with a junkyard certified working unit. Everything has been working great until a couple days ago i was on the highway and lost all gears. I coasted off the ramp and pulled over with no drive. I turned the car off then back on and went through all the gears including awd & 4 high & 4 low and reverse. It felt like it was shifting but no motion. When i went to shift back to park there was a grinding noise. (No dash light warnings or computer fault codes from the obd 2.) I then turned the truck off for little while and then started it again. Still no drive until i activated 4 wheel low, then i felt motion.

    I was able to move the truck slowly off the highway. I then put the truck into 2 wheel high and it would not go above 10 mph. I had the truck towed home. Today i checked it out more. Tested all the fuses and made sure that nothing came unplugged on the tranny. Changed the transfer case motor just because. That's about all that i have tested. Only other thing i did was disconnected the battery for a couple hours and still not going above 10-15 mph and won't shift from there? Any suggestions would be a blessing. I did notice also that sometimes when i go to start the truck that i have to move the shifter into park more to get it to start and only 1 or 2 times the truck would not shift out of park.     Hello Mark I have a 92 v6 Ford Tempo after a cold start the car drives well the first 5 to 10 minutes after that time the spedometer stops working and transmission does not want to shift. I have replaced the vehicle speed sensor and have the same problem any advice much appreciated thank you

    Hello Mark I found you thru some forums and have a question about my 98 f150 tranny, it just started slipping out of gear randomly the fluid is more brown than red and smells like wd40 not burnt, i am changing fluid and filter tomorrow your one post mentioned to Change the manual lever position sensor (MLPS.) It's also called a Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) or Neutral Safety Switch (NSS.) i found both thru advance auto what is the difference in the 2? anything else to consider to fix the issue? thanks for any info

    mark I have a 1996 ford e150 conversion van trans rebuilt yesterday still has no reverse and seems to lack in all forward gears , now if I rev it up it will back up ,seems like a blocked passage of internal leak not sure
