1995 F-150 trans fill plug

Hey all, I am new to this site. I have a 1995 F-150 with manual transmission. I just bought the truck and found the transmission is leaking. Previous owner rounded off the fill plug somewhat. 2 questions: first, any advice on how to remove plug? Second, where do I find a new plug? I have scoured the internet but not found anything

Is it an aluminum plug? Size? If 1/2"NPT you can drive a 7/8" 6 point socket on it if it sticks out a little. If it sticks out any you could also try a pair of pliers. Tap on plug first to let it know you want to get it out.
There are ways around this...Show us a photo.

If it is too rounded for a 6 point wrench or socket I would try a pipe wrench as a last resort, if there is enough sticking out to get a hold of.

Vise grips? You may have to drill it out. Or weld a nut on the plug. If you put a lot of grease on the drill bit, it may minimize the metal particles that get into the transmission. It probably doesn't have a drain? The Japanese trucks used to have drain plugs and fill plugs on their manual transmissions and differentials.

It has a fill and a drain, it's a Japanese transmission.

Maybe heat it up a little with a propane torch before attempting the vise grips. I'd also do what someone else suggested and rap it with a hammer to help unstick the threads before using the vise grips. If you get it out, you might could use a metric bolt for a plug.

Thanks folks. I will try the suggested options. I tried vice grips and the vice grips only spin on the plug. The plug is most definitely aluminum. Yes, it does have a drain plug. I'm told it's the Mazda tranny. My next move was a pipe wrench. If pipe wrench doesn't work, I will torch the entire truck and start over!

Best pair of pliers for the job. Hit it with a hammer a few times. If it still does not come out use a drill bit with grease as noted by another poster. Then squeeze it and twist.

Grind the sides of the plug so it has two flat sides. then it can be gripped better. I'd still heat it a little and rap it with a hammer too.

Thanks MKTRUCK and Roadie. I ordered the pliers just now....I could always use another pair. If those don't work, I'll try the drill method. I'm not quite tracking on how to drill/what drilling a hole will do for me. Keep in mind, I'm a amateur at best. Would drilling a hole allow for the nut to "crush" so you could get a better grip?

I thought about grinding down two sides as suggested by Roadie. Last resort?

If you drill it, start with a smaller drill and try to center the hole. Then use a larger and larger drill bit being careful not to get into the threads. Eventually, it will come out. I still think the flat sides with vise grips will do the job without risking getting metal particles in the tranny. Wouldn't hurt to keep spraying penetrating oil on it too until you use a torch to heat it of course.
