Transmission swap

My trans went out in my 03 5.4 fx4 and Im looking at one downstate from me. Came out of a 5.4 but a couple years older. Like 2000 I think. Both 4x4 both 4r70s. Just want to make sure it will fit before I go get it. The #'s I got off from both are pkf-y 7Y and mine says pkf-cy 2Y. Will it fit?

The trans is out of a 97 I just found out. I've heard they won't fit tho because of the years.

The control wiring and trans sensor equipage is different.
Otherwise it should bolt up but may not have all the shift functions unless converted.
You would need to be good at this by matching wiring and hardware for 2003 use.
Your truck has electronic dash and upgrades due to the year the 97 does not have.
Good luck.

I'm going to ask a moderator to move this to Transmissions, this is not going to be an easy swap.

HIGHLY recommend you try to find one out of a 01-03, those would be plug and play. 4x4, either a 4.6 or 5.4.

I just changed to a 4r100 out of a f250 mine is a 2001 and I had installed a tranny out of a 98 and the Speedo wouldn't work and it wouldn't shift proper up 2 98 they didn't have a turbine senser 99 and up need that it won't pass emissions if the Speedo dosent work won't let the pcm go thru the emissions test. Save ur self the head ache and stay with the same year series unless u have a lot of cash to throw away

Bottom line, you need a 4R70W out of a 99-03 F-150 4X4 with either a 4.6 or 5.4. It will be plug and play, but if it's out of a 4.6 you should use a 5.4 torque converter for best results.
