I love my transmission! Alan at Dirty Dog Performance is a great guy and I could not be happier! I went to the track for the first time with the new trans and launched it on slicks and it took it like a champ! I have had it for a few weeks now have not had the first problem. i called him at work today, told me 1850+ s&h. sounds decent, only thing is i did finally find a local guy, he wants 2500 without a converter. the local guy said he would replace everything he could with hardened parts. toss up here... althought alan @ ddp has me enticed with his price. although the s&h will get me rather close to the local guys price

what specific questions should i be asking these guys? al wants to use a 4r75, rod (local) wants to rebuild my 4r70. price after shipping almost comes out the same, the warranty is almost the same. only thing is al told me the 75 is way better designed all around. rod just wants to replace anything wore out and call it 800hp ready.

Alam told me that the drum and the planateries are heavier in the 75 than the 70 and I have herd that more than once. I had tons of questions before I ordered one I called him 5 or 6 times over two weeks each time he answered all of my questions and then some. He was 4 hours away from me and he even offered to meet me half way, like I said before

yeah he told me the casing for something like the sun gear was stainless. i understand thats probably the best material for wear. its like i said, im incompetent when it comes to naming parts but i know enough bout my metals to understand why.

so aside from the 75 being a later version and having different pinout for whatever. i should be able to repin my wiring and use the 97's xfercase behind it without any hiccups? is the 75 a better base to start with? is it considerably better?

I think Phil's tranny guy told him the same this about his rebuild of his 4r70w and we all know how well that went. I think Dirty Dog knows a little more about what he is doing as far as dealing with F150. He understands that these transmissions are going behind trucks that get abused. Not to mention the amount of low end torque that the 5.4 is capable of putting out with a L supercharger on top.

Why do people talk **** about the 4R70W trans in general.

It is the auto of choice in the mustang world among the Terminator crowd and even the fox bodies(using the Baumannator TCS). I now these cars are lighter than our trucks so maybe that's the reason the F150 guys don't like them. So JLP went in the low 8's with a 4R70W. Of course his truck weighs nothing like a truck anymore but lets consider the power he is putting through it and I think that would kinda balance it out.

Seeing the 4r100/E4OD beside a 4R70W/AODE makes the 4r70 look like a t-5.

I have the 4R70W and i believe I am having converter problems. Its like it is locked at idle, causing the truck to go like 15 MPH w/o touching the gas. Also the temps are getting into the 210* range for no reason. I have broken one of the 1-2 accumulator spring for the second time. Of course I guess all these problems doesn't really help the status of the 4r70w but the truck has 110000+ miles and the previous owner pulled a goose neck trailer with this 1/2 ton truck.

because in the truck world, you have so much more dry weight than a car. not to mention if you haul anything, there is where the hurtin comes into play. plus the 5.4 makes sooo much torque down low, the 4r70w cant handle that well either.

yes as far as a lightweight drag car, the 4r70w definately has its perk there. but dont put it behind a bigger bottom end torque motor
