Coilovers Vs 4" Lift

Im seriously debating my choices here!

My current setup is a 2" front level and 2" rear block. Measures 40.5" from the ground to the center of the front fender/wheel well. The tires are 34.5" tall (285-60-20)

I am about to make a purchase in the next couple months to replace this setup and debating on either the Coilover setups (Fox/Icon) or the Rancho 4" Lift w/RS9000 shocks.

I will be doing some offroading/trails in Missouri, no open dune landscapes.
Please post your thoughts!

Icon 2.5 Front & 2.0 Rear with Uniball control arms ($2300)

FOX 2.5 Front & 2.0 Rear w/ Camburg Uniball control arms ($2100)

RANCHO 4" Lift w/RS9000XL Struts/Shocks ($2029 + install) Might be a Rebate on the horizon too!?

I parked my truck next to an FX4 today with the Rancho 4" lift & 35's and it seemed to dwarf my setup. The truck looked SOOOO cool too!

If you're looking for true "performance", either one of those coil-overs will be the only way to go. The only thing you really get from a lift kit is ground clearance and looks. You just have to decide which is best for you. As for the debate between Icon or Fox...you're splitting hairs. Both pretty darn awesome. Simply go with brand loyalty on that one.

Running spacer level on my '07 and wouldn't mind doing something better. Just subscribing to see what everybody says.

fox and camburg ALL DAY. no comparison. I have a friend with ALL icon shocks. coils bypasses etc. it was fine for what he had but since having his truck linked hes switching. fox is a bad *** shock. worth the money. and camburg is IMO one of if not the best kit making companies out there. I would run them on my truck if they offered a 4x4 application. the lift is what it is, a lift. the icons aren't bad by any means, I just prefer fox's because of their applications elsewhere. I don't know of one TT with icons, but I could name at least 5 with foxs. that technology trickles down if you catch my drift.

Fox products are of coarse great, but if a full suspension lift is within budget, I voted for the lift. Better angles than a level and more height since I am a lift fan.

you can adjust the height with the coil. better angles then a level yes, but not over that fox setup. you'd be amazed at what you can do with that kit.

I went with Fox 2.5 coilovers with remotes in the front and the 2.5 with remotes in the rear. Went with Total Chaos for the UCA's. Plus a set of Deaver progressives in the rear. Short of going fiberglass this is the best setup I have driven out there. I can pound through the dirt all day long and the truck can take 90% of what is out there...

Are you going for form or function, and how often will you be offroading? The 4" lift will look the best for sure, but those coilover setups will obviously be more for purpose, obviously. I'd want the lift! But I think that first question will decide everything. Then . . .

Why not both?!?!

I think I have made my choice....Got my hands on a new takeoff set of Fox piggyback shocks from a 2013 Raptor. (great price too)
Going with the Fox front 2.5 & UCAs to finish off the initial stages of the kit.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

It's amazing, on the street it's actually somewhat firm but not uncomfortable and very controlled. Once you get on the dirt it softens up and it is just a joy. You hit a bump it just absorbs it and if you get some air it lands very controlled with no bounce back. It was expensive but the end result is second to none. I love it.

Hey Uin2it, where did you find these set ups and do you by chance know if they make them for the 04-08 body style? I tried looking but no luck. Wanting to get a little more info. Thank you.
