suspension fund

so I officially started my suspension fund where I am going to set aside x amount of $ every month untill I have enough $ to get all the xtra height.

Basicly I have a 06 2wd f150. I want to get atleast a 6" suspension lift (possible under 1500) and I know I need a leveling kit. I also want to get bigger tires. I really like the nitto tires that arent mudding tires but look like them(sorry i forgot the name). and maybe new wheels in the future.

1st things 1st. I am getting my ball joints replaced so would it be wise to get the leveling kit installed at the same time to save labor cost? I suppose I should level my truck first? I was recommended to get the 5100 blisten shocks that add 2" extra at the most. That way I level out my truck and replace the front shocks in one kit.
My current concern: Do 6" suspension lifts(that are compatable w/my truck) come with new shocks? (which would defeat the purpose of getting the blisten 5100s). How should I go about adding my desired lift by priority.
Would I level out the front with 2"( not 2.5 ?), Add the 6" or so suspension lift, and then get the new tires when I get the money? (respectively).

I am in college and only make about $7k a year(if that) and I already have plenty of bills, but my love for lifted trucks overides all else haha.

I would appreciate any advice

I have a 2" leveling kit on my 2wd and the front is still a little lower than the back. If I did it over I would go with a 2.5" leveling kit. Depending on the kit, some lifts come with replacement shocks and some don't like the Pro-Comp basic kit (it uses a big spacer for the front lift). For the lift and leveling there are several different routes you can take.

1. Fabtech "Performance" 6" lift with Dirt Logic front coil overs that can be adjusted for an additional 2" of lift (8" total or the same height as a 4x4 with 6" lift). The lift kit is more expensive and is the route I would/will probably take.

2. Rough Country 6" lift with a leveling kit of your choice.

3. Fabtech "Basic" 6" lift with a leveling kit of your choice.

4. I know there are other options, but I am drawing a blank now... There are a couple different companies that make 6" lifts for us 2wd fellers.

It seems the prices have gone up since I was last looking into them about 2 years ago.

If you decide to go with a leveling kit or Bilsteins definitely do it at the same time as the ball joints. You will need an alignment after both of them, so knock it out in one shot and only pay for an alignment once.

do everything at once including ball joints (unless your doing it yourself). no point to level your truck if it's coming apart again in 3 months to put a 6" on. lifts come with new shocks in the rear, depends on the lift for the front.

are you at school up in dallas?

Don't forget about tires and gears. Tires cost as much or more than the freakin lift kits, these days. Also, your performance is going to suck if you try running 35" tires on gears smaller than 4:10.

They might have been talking about the Pro-Comp lifts.

I found the basic Fabtech for $1,651.14 and the performance kit for $2,253.42 both with free shipping. You can take a print out of the web page to a local 4wheel parts and see if they have the kit on hand and they should price match it if you don't want to order it and wait for the shipping. You can also watch for installation rebates from them (4WP) if you don't plan to install it yourself.

Fabtech low prices.

gears aren't a must with a 35. a tuner puts you roughly back to stock power.

to get the kit cheaper you just have to watch ebay, truck websites, and manufacturers rebates like a must. and yes pro comp is probably what your going to find the cheapest.

Gears have nothing to do with the amount of power, just where the power is. A tuner will do nothing to keep you from bogging heavy off the line. They are only necessary if you don't want to be bogging off the line and causing stress on your tranny.

I used to work at discount tire so I can get tires for about $200 less. I was looking at the nitto terra grapplers I think....The ones that look like mudding tires but last 50k + miles. And I think they were only about 33" so there is no problem there.
I really like the look where the tires stick out a little bit, is this bad for your truck? Is it just from buying wider tires? or from something else.

And just to clarify, I will probably "off road" once a year at the most. I am just buying a lift for looks and the fact that I love being up high

Also, I am not going to do the install myself.

And I also used to work at a auto shop and am good friends w/an amazing mechanic who is going to do my ball joints for $200. Ill have to ask him if he wants to take the time to install the lift as well.

Just found the $1099 skyjacker lift http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/04-05...Q5fAccessories

too bad there are only 5 left and I dont have the money yet.

nothing? not one thing? a tuner will definitely help from bogging off the line. it wont be as good as stock but it will help.

gears aren't needed with a 35" tire.

before you buy the lift online find out what he will charge you for the install. most offroad shops will cut you a deal on install if you buy the kit thru them. local shop is $1800 installed for a 6" RCX, another is $2100 for a BDS.

Yes. Absolutely nothing. You can't tune in more gear ratio or bottom end.
