Question Screw Premium Sound questions

Besides the 6-CD changer in my center console (getting captains chairs) and the cassette in the dash, what else is "premium" about the premium sound system?
More power? RCA outputs?
I am trying to decide how I want to upgrade the system once I get the truck.

yeah i am curious about sound options too... anyone know if a sub could possibly fit in the space behind the rear seat where the changer usu goes? I don't have the truck yet, so i haven't seen how big the area is...

There really is no "premium" in this sound system. I know a lot of people say that about the factory stereos but this one is just plain crappy!

My '97 F150 had a pretty good system. It wasn't fancy but had a great sound to it.

There is no bass in this system at all. I have the bass dial turned all the way up and the trebel about 1/2 and still looking for more.

I can't complain about the factory system, it sounds very good. Not like my home system, but good enough.

went to drive the screw again yesterday, and while i was there i jumped in an explorer sporttrac just to kill some time (very cramped!!!!). anyways, i noticed it had an in-dash pioneer head unit with 6 disc changer all in the same unit.

can this be ordered through parts and installed in a screw? looked like a decent option, cuz aftermarket stereos are so expensive in the non-standard size.

If I had it to do over again, I leave the radio out entirely. The "premium" system is real crappy. Changer cartridge is quite flimsy, as the CD holder "leaves" are fragile as butterfly wings. Aftermarket is definately the way to go. Two good local soundshops have said the standard 5x7 can be fit with excellent 5.25 rounds easily. I'll be installing a Blaupunkt Munchen head unit and retrofitting the front spkrs with some nice Infinity Kappa components. Rear doors will probably get a decent coax, I havent decided which. I'll be installing the JLAudio stealthbox in the console. Add a Rockford Fosgate amp for woofie boy and another for the door drivers and I'll be movin' on down the highway with the sun overhead and a song poundin' in muh heart!

FWIW, I had to drive a 98 Lincoln towncar the other day and it's got the same system (in the dash anyway) as the Premium 6 CD in my 2001 Lariat. HMMMM.
