Post is rustproofing necessary?

getting close to ordering and the dealer is pushing the undercoating. does ford address undercoating in some way during the manufacturing process? I'm just not sure that 3 bills for undercoating is necessary.

Hey Bill....undercoating is always a good thing to do no matter where you live. Undercoating keeps everything looking clean, reduces road noise, prevents corrosion and best of all it's a great selling feature when selling the truck down the road...buyers see this as an owner that cared about their vehicle.

$300 is way to much! I just had mine done for $139.95 at a local detail shop (excellent job!)with a life time warranty for as long as I own the truck...tell your dealer to take a hike and go elsewhere!

if you decide to use undercoating (personal decision) dont over pay at ""dealership land" """where anything is posssible.""" use an aftermarket vender,,thats what your dealership will do anyway..

Bfranklin, I used to have Ziebart do it buy it was always a hassle getting it for yearly check ups. This truck I bought a bunch of rubberized undercoating spray cans from the auto parts store and sprayed the hell out of it underneath. Then I bought some automotive body seam sealer from a bodyshop paint supply shop and used it to seal all gaps where sheet metal had been crimped. At least all I could find. This includes a bottom of doors, hood and tailgate. It's a lot of work removing the door panels buy hey, go ahead and upgrade your speakers while your there. When I took the truck to the dealer to get the bed extender installed the body shop guys noticed what I had done with the seams and said it was a smart thing to do. I picked that tip up here on the F150online.

I was told that any aftermarket undercoating that drills holes to "seal"it (like Ziebart used to) properly will VOID your factory 3-36,000
or maybe it's 5 years on the body.

Cool

Personally, I dont see a need for it. Ive never had it, and never had a vehicle rust. Frequent washing seems to keep everything in shape.. And im not worried about my fiberglass wheel wells rusting anymore (or whatever the beds are made of these days) I've got a 92 F150 sittin out in the driveway thats all original, not a speck of rust around the rear wheels (go look at any other ford of those years and find me a rust free one) How'd it happen? I take a few seconds and shoot the water hose up that way to wash out the crap.. save your money for something fun on the truck.

I asked my dealer about undercoating and whether or not it would void the factory warranty. He said that basically Ford's warranty covers acts of nature such as exposure to rain, snow, sun, etc. I live in an area that get alot of snow and the roads are frequently salted. He said that Ford is a real stickler about honoring the underbody warranty in these areas. He suggested that I have an aftermarket rustproofing put on. Has anyone heard of problems with Ford honoring the warranty in areas that are heavily salted?

Thumbs up

Got mine shot on the inside and the underside, cost ... about $225 at the dealer with some negotiating. And unlike Zeibart, I only have to take it back for re-inspection after 3 years, at no cost. If your going to keep your truck awhile, get it done!!

That's my 2 pennies
