Strange noise

My 2001 Screw has, since I picked it up, made a slight noise below 15 mph or so when braking. It sounded like it coming from the suspension, but the dealer could not find anything wrong, claiming it was probably the tires. The noise sounds like it keeps sync with the tire rotation so that made sense. Well, 30k miles later and new tires (Dueler Revos as recommended here!) and it still made the noise. Real annoying when the windows were open, but I rarely drive that way.

Now at 40k miles, I believe the sound is more pronounced and is present at all speeds. Strangely, it appears to go away when I turn right.

Any clue what may be making this noise?

It sound sounds like it's coming from the front-end -- not a metallic or a high-pitched squeak, but more of a low-tone, rotating sound. Tires are stock size on stock rims.
One thing I noticed last night is it is more pronounced after driving for 10 minutes. I know sounds are hard to diagnose, and this ticks me off since the dealer had it multiple times and claimed it wasn't there. Now after four years, when the warranty is up, it's my nickle to fix.

Cool hmm

have you possibly thougth about your brake pads, depending on what kind of material they are they may make noise, i know i got my brakes done at mavis discount tire, dont ask, and ever since then they make noise, but mostly when i turn left and it goes away when i turn right i took it in and they found nothing wrong just that it has to be the pads because they are metallic, but they stop amazingly and i would rather stop well and have a noise than not stopping at all,

btw does the noise go away when you step on the brake, cuz mine does , anyways just letting you know what kind of noise i had and why so it might help or even help eliminate some other possibilities, well goodluck,

I had this type of problem on my 2001. It would come around after ten to twenty minutes of driving. But, my sounded like grinding vibration noise, but only when applying the brakes. I checked the brakes, tires and nearly the whole front end nothing. Eventually I installed new brake pads and rotors and the noise is gone. But, the brake pads I removed still had at least half of their life left. But, that just my two cents.

Brakes makes sense. Still the original pads, so I'm due for an upgrade on those.

Thanks.

I would think wheel bearings. My wheel bearings went out on my 03 and it only made the noise when I turned one direction. Brakes might be something but I would honestly look at the bearings.

I have a 2003 Screw and i have a problem that is close or maybe the exact to the problem your having. I have a whomp whomp noise at all speeds that i think is coming from the front right that is rotational and the noise increases with speed. The odd thing is that if i go down a steep incline while using the breaks a lotor am on the breaks for a while it goes from a whomp whomp noise to a louder clanking noise. But what is also weird is that the clanking noise will only occur when i turn towards the right or go straight. My initial thoughts where that it was something to do with the breaks pads, because i figured they would heat up going down hill and then once off of them for a while they would cool down because the clanking noise would go away and go back to the whomp whomp noise. Recently someone said it could be a wheel bearing so i jacked up my truck and grabbed the wheel at the 12 and 6 O'clock position and tried moving it back and forth to check for a bad wheel bearing. I couldnt really hear anything so i decided to spin the wheel. When doing so i could hear the whomp whomp noise develope as i would spin it faster. The odd thing though is when i would spin the wheel slowly i could feel some resistance and then all at once it would spin freely and then resitance would come back. So to double check this i tried the other side of my truck. I did and i had a constant resitance on my front right vs. not having on my front left. This is something very weird i have no idea what it could possibly be. If you figured your problem out could you please let me know or if anyone else has any possible ideas what this could be it would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 2001 S.Crew too and i think i have the same problem. Its really annoying cuz its really quiet and it sounds like its coming from the driver side front tire. Its a rotating swooshing sound.I had my brakes replaced and that didnt fix it. and the dealership guys cant hear it. but i hear it everytime im driving.

Cool haha yeah funny story

i took it into ford to get that noise checked out and i took them for a drive in it to show them the noise and of course with my luck it didnt fricken make the noise...so they decided it was the brakes

but im really starting to think that it might be the bearings but i have no idea of how i would be able to find out anyone have any suggestions or how they figured it out and how to get rid of this fricken noise!!!!!

Cool same thing here...

i have an '02 F-150 with about 35k on it and have the same "weird" noise coming from the front-right-side. it's kind of like a metal-on-metal rub sound and only between 0-30 mph. plus, you can hear it when you put the brakes on. i've tried putting it in nuetral and revving, nothing. it seems to be tied to the wheel bearing on the front-right. i read in another post that a similar person had the same problem. i point it out to a friend and of couse, there was no noise at that time. it's almost like it has a mind of its own and only sounds when you are alone! arggh...i'm going to investigate the wheel bearing issue and see what that does and if it corrects the issue.

I would say bearings. mine did it and i took it to ford and they replaced them and the noise went away. My noise sounded like metal on metal more than anything.
