This is a longshot, but I wonder if it is the tires causing this noise. I ran into a similar situation several years ago on a vehicle with some cheap-o Firestone tires. It whomp-whomp-whomped down the road and I couldn't figure out where the noise was coming from. I finally wore the tires out and had a set of Yokohama radials put on. The noise magically disappeared and the car purred down the road.

Good guess. When the OE tires started to slide in the rain I replaced them with Bridgestone Revos. Noise was there before and after the change.

Nope, not the tires. This sound developed since long after I changed tires. The tires change sound with the pavement and asphalt. The sound never changes no matter what kind of surface the truck is on. road, pavement, asphalt, wet roads, all the same

Alright I'm doing it. Gonna get a wheel bearing and see what happens. I can't handle this noise any longer

Results: No good. The wheel bearing didn't seem to do a whole lot other than make my wallet cry. The old bearing was leaking though, so i feel like it was at least a justified waste of money. I guess the next thing to do is ball joints.

To recap everything, my noise is not a squeal, squeak, grind, hiss, or anything like most noises that come up. It's a wom-wom-wom (go ahead, say it out loud noise that between 20 and 50 mph, and gets worse when turning left and dissappears when turning right. Braking does not effect the noise. This all leads me to believe that it's something on the RIGHT side (more pressure when turning left?) and a component closely connected to the wheel. The noise sounds a lot like tire noise, but i have the same tires all around so the sound should be equal turning in either direction. My first guess was a slightly worn wheel bearing that was letting sound transfer from the wheel to the rest of the frame, therefore amplifying it. I ruled that one out, so maybe ball joints next?

Anybody else tried anything so far? Am I the only **** one that really wants to get rid of this?

Noise Is Gone !!!!!

First and foremost thanks to Big Red for the advice in a previous post . Secondly, praise the lord the NOISE IS GONE !!!!! lol My noise was the one that sounded like metal on metal like a grabbing or rubbing noise that came when the wheel "rolled" at a certain spot. that everyone was having fits about . (see previous posts earlier in thread for full rundown) Here is what we did. I ordered new tires because my old ones where wearing and had some knots popping up on them so I ordered new tires and the whomping noise is gone because of the tires as well but that wasnt my main problem. My noise was coming from the drivers front side so we pulled back the dust shield even though it didnt appear that it would touch we did it anyway in case it came in any when the weight of the truch was on it. Next we checked the clips or slides on the caliper. The one on the main back towards the right appeared ok but we still pulled it away some then we checked the clips on the right side of the caliper. It appeared that there was a very good possibilty it could be rubbing ever so slightly so we pulled it away just a tad bit. I think big red said he replaced some of his slides but I just pulled mine away from everything (just a lil) last we cleaned down everything around the wheel. You name it we sprayed it to get any rust or dirt out of there we put the new itres on and my friend said Jay if this doesnt fix it I have no clue ! Give it a few days and if it continues we will just tear everything down and clean parts part by part and go from there. So I pull out and No Noise ! I go further down the road waiting to hear it still no noise ! 5 days later and no sign of the noise !!! I am not gay or anything but if big red was here I think I would kiss him square in the mouth !!! lol jk I love my tires too btw . I dont do any mudding or off road riding but if you want a good inexpensive tire try out the mastercraft courser htr I paid 110 each for the 265 70 r 17 my mechanic has em on his f150 and he is around 40,000 with alot of tread left and he said they are as quiet as mine are now and mine are very very quiet. I hope my post helps some of you out there that had the same aggravating noise I had. Give it a shot and let me know if it helped you any at all ..If ya got any questions yell at me !
later Big Jay

Done. Ball joints seemed to take care of 90% of the noise I had. I think the remaining 10% is just me being paranoid.
