Headlight Bulb Removal
Been lurking quite a while, and just got my SCREW last week. I like it MUCH better than my 98 EB Expedition. My question is regarding headlight removal. I intend to install the silverstars this weekend, and the RF headlight bulb can be accesed without removing anything. However the L side is another story. I read somewhere that you pull up in the two levers near the core support to remove the headlight assy. When I pull up on the levers, the assy. seems to become loosened, but it still does not come out. Would it just be easier to remove the coolant tank?

The two tabs you pull up are the only two tabs and you might want to look down so you can see where the slot openings are in relation to the grommet that comes off the headlamp assembly that holds it in place. Sometimes they don't want to come popping right out so you may have to give it a light push from behind or something...

I just did the same job and went thru the same learning curve
No, you don't have to remove anything. You just pull up on the two tabs and like ReelWork said, look down inside where the tabs are moving to make sure that the headlight is released and then using your fingers push forward on the place where the wire connector connects to the bulb.
Also, The Omni-Present RockPick (I don't know how he spends so much time on this forum) posted a really good comment in another forum about removing the signal lights when replacing the headlights. Ya, Ya, I thought . . . I will just pay attention to detail, use my incredibly developed mechanical skills, and skip that recommendation.
It is just one bolt on the top of the signal light assembly to remove the signal lights while replacing the headlights which is what you do to plug in your new SilverStars. DO remove those signal lights! It is sooo much easier and will save you sooo much time and agrivation.

Ahh Dave, if you had posted about two weeks ago, I could've just come by and pulled your headlights out while I was doing work up in South Bend over off of Orange Street (adhesives manufacturer)...
Not sure if anyone's mentioned this but, I recommend that you remove the corner lamps before reinstalling the housings. It'll make your job MUCH easier because lining up those little tabs can be a booger sometimes.

Here is a bit of clarification -
Remove the signal light assembly screw. Then pull the signal light assembly forward to remove it.
Then pull up on the headlight tabs and look to ensure that the assembly can move forward. Then push headlight assembly forward. Removing the signal light assembly will save you a bunch of time and agrivation. This tip is originally from the Omni-Present RockPick.

Thanks for all the great replies folks! The silverstars are going in the fogs and the headlights this week. I didn't know about removing the corner lights, great info. When I pulled the tabs "experimenting" the other day, It almost seemed like I didn't get them re engaged properly. The headlight assys seemed rather loose, so I will look into that more closely.
