How to: Ford Lightning swap on a N/A F150
#16
Nice pics. MADS list is not complete. I have added some more parts, but even this list assumes you strat with a complete blower/intake assembly.
Also, interesting plumbing at rear of engine. Guess you didn't get the IC hard lines. Also, for the lower pulley, the NA motors balancer is not the same as the 01-04 L's. So if that pulley is made for them, then you need the ring that goes around the hub so that that the pulley fits snug. When buying new ask for one for the 99-00 L's since they had the NA balancers.
Bracket with idlers and special bolts (need extra bolts, but they're stock bolts, however you need the spacer for the inside driver side stud)
Tensioner Assembly
Lightning Alternator (outright, no core return, L have 8 rib belts, so swap pulley)
Alternator Stabilizer Bracket
Intercooler Pump with Bracket and Pigtail
Intercooler Reservoir with Cap
IC heat Exchanger, surround and bumper brackets
IAC Tube
Throttle Cable
Throttle Cable Bracket
Cruise Control Cable (I think you can reuse original)
IAT Sensor (fits in air cleaner, add L/HD air cleaner box as well)
Water Pump Spacer or L/HD fan
L/HD Fan Stroud or modify original
Upper Radiator Hose (can use NA, but might as well install new one)
Heater hose from L/HD (replaces the original one that goes to the front of the motor)
PCV Tube (left hand side)
TB to MAF Rubber Connector with clamps
90mm MAF
42lb injectors
Intake Gasket Set
In-Tank Fuel Pump (single 255lph fine for most)
Upper Two Intercooler Hoses (need all 4 IC hoses)
Original Equipment Installation Bolts
Lower Drive Pulley with Belt (Boost level of your choice)
This list assumes you got a complete assembly, from intake up through throttle body. I'm not sure of all the vacuum/PVC hoses since my blower came with them nor do I claim that this is a complete list.
You do not need L/HD engine wiring harness or ECM, if you do use L/HD engine harness and NA ECM it will plug right in. With NA ECM you will need a new tune and you will have to tell tuner which IAT to run. NA only had one, L/HD add a second in the intercooler. NA harness can be modified to connect to sensors which are in different positions, I think only one.

the other option (really only makes sense if you have a 2wd and 4r100 in the truck) is to use the whole L wiring harness, L computer, whatever cluster (as long as its a newer digital one), the L dual fuel pump hat and then just have Ford reprogram the PATs system. Thats how I did my truck, so basically its a complete lightning drivetrain, comp, and wiring in an extended cab truck.
This would not be a good option if you are 4x4 or dont have a 4r100 trans, but it worked great for me!

yeah, i already had the built trans so i wasnt going to swap it out, plus a 4r100 wont work with my lift kit because of where the transmission crossmember is. you would also need the PCM and wireing harness to control the 4R100 because the stock NA computer cant support it.
