How much boost

Hey guys this is my first post on this board. I have been looking around here and it seems to be a great board so I wanted to say hi.

Now to my question, how much boost from a supercharger can a stock 5.4 2007 FX4 engine handle without damaging the engine.

Thanks

12psi with a quality tune. I'm headed for 10 or 12 by Memorial Day weekend if Troyer can fit me in. Theres a couple of guys on here running 10-12 for quite sometime. And btw welcome aboard.

Thanks, I have currently the roush tune but I am going to have it tuned on a dyno the 25th since I have added a TB and exhaust. Also just ordered another pulley the supercharger.

I am going for big and bad...I am running 6 inch lift with 35's plus the blower. You can say i am having a lot of fun right now.

Nice. You will need to watch the heat with that blower and 12lbs of boost. Whose doing the tuning? You should check out a member named FX4Matt. Bad *** 4wd truck with a Heaton blower on it and a Troyer tune with plenty of other mods.

with the higher compression on the 5.4 3v probably 12psi is the most i would push for if your wanting to last more than 100K miles.

Yes 10psi is a happy medium. After two very long conversations with Mr. Troyer over the past two days I have decided to go with 10psi myself.

10 psi is where I've drawn the line too. I believe 12 psi is going to put you on the edge as far as fuel requirements from the stock components.

welcome to the boards..... and I'm sorry you havto run that Rouch tune it just blows! once you get a good dyno tune the truck wakes up big time I have the Roush kit running 8lbs of boost I tow my boat in the summer so I think I'll stay at 8lbs, as for your heat exchanger look on E-bay find one off a cobra or a lightning and run 2 check my pics.

Hopefully you have upgraded your fuel system, ie injectors and fuel pump! Issue with higher boost is also related to internal engine components. Not sure about 3v's, but 2v's did not have forged crank or pistons. Pistons probably the highest risk. Good tune, and keep the rpm's low, say closer to 5,200 for these boost levels with stock bottom end. One tuner that a lot have used would tell you never to go say above 8 without a built bottom end. Won't mention any names. I was running 10 then went to 12 with my daily driver. Raw oil started coming out exhaust. Rings and exhaust valve guides were shoot. Engine was at 120,000 at that point.

The 99 5.4 I swapped into my truck had a forged crank. I had over 100k on the engine when I added the Procharger. I am approaching 150K and so far so good.

The earlier engines had the forged crank and at some point they started to fade away at some point. But I believe the pistons were never forged on the 2v with the exception of the supercharged engines. This is a big weakness especially with high boost. However they say it all depends. A daily driver can get away with a lot more than one that sees the drag strip a lot. I currently have 155,000 miles and running 16lbs of boost, but then I now have all forged internals in mine and head studs

Ford's have always had a weakpoint in the pushrods and wristpins.

Don't get greedy with the boost- when pigs turn into hogs, they get slaughtered
