I think that the mount needs to stay black. But I am unsure if I like the mirror red or if I should leave it black.

I think that black is a theme of every truck, every truck has black. Look at this truck, there is black everywhere you look.

This truck would look ideal with black mirror bases, to match the black window tint and the stock trim. All about flow.

I think what I don't like about painting the mount ptm is, from the side it looks like a big chunk of color was slapped on.

So you don't like the stock mirrors that have painted skull caps either?

I think the black base completes the flow of the window area. Having the body color there makes an abrupt end to the flowing line of the opening.

I totally agree. I like the ptm skull caps. That was my plan to use the caps on the xlt's.

I was talking about this look. It's not bad. Just not my style...

whats ur definition of theme? just because the color is on there doesnt make it a theme. red taillights don't make red a theme of all trucks with red taillights.

If an entire window pocket is black a theme is present, therefore every truck has a black theme, not to mention all the other areas that are black, connecting the black theme.

But if you look at the pic I posted it looks like you have a huge mirror base covering part of the window....
