i have a standard cab f150 with bench seat, could i fit 2 12's behind the seat and if so what kind do yall recommend considering i have a limited amount of room to work with and where can i find a box that will fit between the seat and the back of the cab..... any info or suggestions will be appreciated.... thanx

 

Dont buy 12's if you strapped for cash or on a budget. Get a really good pair of 10's for about the same price as 12's.

JL makes a good setup and sounds good even in tight air spaces.

I'm basically looking for the same set up. i have a lightning and i'm looking for the perfect enclosure for some speakers. any suggestions welcomed.
i've heard good things about the jl's, the thunderform is not necessarily the best but it looks good. This one guy mark, has a nice set up on his lightning.

 

How much do you want to spend? JL subs go from there basic sub to a dual voice ciol sub so its all about how much do you want to sepnd.

MTX makes Thuderform not JL.

I may be out in left field here, but if your looking to spend 250-300 for 2 subs and an amp, your gonna be looking for a long time.

 

Try Ebay....

 

Go to walmart buy 2 of the Jenson 12s for $40 each. Then buy the Jenson 600 watt amp that is like $180. Build your own box and you will have $250-$300 in it and it will sound ok and hit hard enough until you can get some real subs.

 

So, if you're implying that the amount of $$$$ he's spending is keeping him from getting some "real subs", then spending the initial $250 - $300 would be wasted. Right?

Branrulz - getting some "good quality" subs and a decent amp for a combined total of $300 could be a difficult task. Maybe holding off and adding up your pennies for a little while longer will help you get closer to where you want to be in the long run. Not to say that it can't be done, but it will certainly be difficult. Sometimes stereo shops have "buy one get one free" deals on subs, and you may be able to get last year's model amp for half off. So, I guess it can be done. But it won't be easy.

Another alternative would be to go with one 10" and an amp. Profile sells a 300 watt (bridged) amp for about $100. I have one and it sounds great. I have noticed it can get quite warm though...

 

I have the Jensen 600 watt amp in my truck right now, and it sounds decent for the price. Previously it was running the two front doors, and one ten inch sub. It worked out well and never shut off once in the year I used it that way. Now it runs all four cab speakers, and I have a Jensen 500 watt 2ch on the sub. The rms on that amp is about 350 watts. It did shut off on me recently due to heat, but that was because an old jacket of mine was laying on it, not to mention running at high volume for three hours. Once I moved the jacket, it never overheated again. I do plan to upgrade my amps to MTX's or JBL's. I'm just trying to say that Jensens' products are NOT the same as they used to be. They have worked well for me, and hopefully will until I upgrade. Their new visual designs are laughable at best, though. I've bought my last Jensen if they keep up the fugly design.,,,,,98

 

If you look around you can find a decent 10 or 12" sub for $100-135 such as an Audiobahn AW-1200Q for $141 from www.nexxon.com and a US Acoustics USX-2150 from www.sounddomain.com for $169.95 and build the box yourself from 3/4 inch MDF board. I'm only pushing the US Acoustics amps now because they're a good deal for the money and I know the guy that designed them and puts them together. This model has built-in variable low-pass crossover with a tight 24db/octave slope. Run it in stereo. Factory specs are 150wrms x2 into 4 ohms @ 12.9volts input (very conservative).

You can stuff it in a 0.25-1 cu.ft box sealed and 2 cu.ft ported.

That setup would pound pretty good. If you want to add more bass then design a box with two 12" subs, one on either side with a divider in the middle. Then you can add another identical amplifier and subwoofer to the other side of the box when you save up enough money.

It beats a "wal-mart" setup hands down. This way you won't be trashing any components if you decide to upgrade.

You can also move that USX-2150 amp to run your front channel later and get a single much larger amp powering your subwoofers.

When buying components keep in mind that you can use those components in your next system. It makes upgrades less expensive.

At the same time, it is less costly to do it right the first time instead of buying junk, chucking it in the trash and then buying decent stuff.

In your pricerange try and stay with a 12 incher as you'll soon be disappointed with a mediocre 10 inch sub. I bought a Denon 10 inch sub (back in the day) and went to a 15 inch sub a month later because the little 10 just couldn't pump out the bass. However, there are a lot of people that swear by tiny but good quality subs. For me it's cubic inches baby!

Save your pennies for a little while longer.
