'01 Supercab 1-10" Downfire Sub-box

'01 Supercab 1-10" Downfire Sub-box without moving Jack or any other mods

I have been seeing a lot of questions as to how to get more bass from a stock stereo/where to put a subwoofer enclosure in a Supercab 00 and up. I have designed, installed and am enjoying great sound with more bass than I need with a single 10" downfire subwoofer in a box that only takes up about half of the under-seat area in the rear of the cab.

The best way to get "great" sound is to replace your head unit as the frequency response from an aftermarket stereo will be much better. Short of doing that, one can install an amp and woofer using line-level inputs by splicing into the rear speaker wires. The result is obviously added bass. One must remeber to turn the amp up and the bass on the stereo down. The amp/sub will fill in what is being lost from the 6x8s by turning down the bass.

Here are a couple of pics. If someone wants the drawing/plan drop me a note and I will e-mail it to you.

The box is about .6cf and more could be added by extending the portion that goes over the "hump" on the floor. I have a Kenwood 10" that is specifically designed for small enclosures. It sounds great.

hey i was looking into a down firing sub but there is one drawback that i fear.

Does the downfire since it points to the floor muffle the bass at all?

Thanx in advance

Usually it will enhance the bass. If you buy top shelf components you could get one 10 (down fire) to sound as good as two 12s set in a trunk. That's one reason subs sound good in a reg cab (again, with good stuff). The speaker fires into the back of the seat. The only thing you need is enough clearance for the sub to travel and move air!

I need one for my Scab

Thank you very much for the plan.

P.S. What thickness of wood did you use?

cool box. I had a shop make me a custom downfire box for my super cab.
It holds 2 10in subs though. I had a box like that but my truck got broken into and that with my head unit and amp were stolen in Jan 03.
I like the way 2 10in subs sound compaired to 1. But i guess if you don't want too much bass then 1 is good. It's all about what amp your running with the type of sub and where you place it.

Wow, your box looks very nice and clean. Good install. Could you possibly send me the plans for it? Also could you tell me how and where you spliced into your rear speaker wire for your amp inputs. And finally did you use 3/4" material for the box? I want one of these in my truck badly. Thank you in advance for your help. Have a great day.
