Yea'
Funny thing is, those old tri-axials can still be used to build a darn nice sounding system, if given some good clean power, then crossed over so that they don't have to produce anything below say 60hz. You just send everything below that, to a big amp(s) and then to a real subwoofer(s)
Peace,
Fish

I installed a lot of those in high school. Put two of those in a 74 Buick Electra and the trunk would shake. Amps were hard to come by then, but we used what we could to give them some thump.
At the time, they might have been some of the best speakers around. I still have the pair that I had in my old pickup from the early 80s. All the foam is rotted off of them, but I still have them. Listened to a lot of 38 Special, Aldo Nova, April Wine and Bon Jovi with those things. That really takes me back. Thanks for posting that.

My first car was a 75 mustang II Mach 1. (I think the 302 it had was rated around 140 hp) I had a set like those in the back. I can remember being totally psyched when I saved enough money for a Pioneer head unit that had a digital display. That was just way cool back in 1984. :-)

Oh yea, a Pioneer Super Tuner 2. With Dolby. How funny. I put a Kenwood head unit in my old 72 Pickup, it was only a pre amp head unit, so I had to put an eq amp on it. It had green led display. I thought I was all that. Had the Jensens down under the seat firing forward. I acutally removed the tweeter and Midrange speaks from inside the woofers and put them up by the visors, so I could hear it better. It worked pretty darn well.
Funny to think about those old times. I am sitting up here in my office right now listening to some Zepplin on a mid seventies Marantz reciever and some Zenith Allegro speaks that I have had since I was 14. Which would have been 1980. I guess I am a sucker for Old School.
Fun Thread.
