New Door Speakers?

New Door Speakers?
Hey guys. Not sure if this is exactly the section for this but my question is would it sound better to put in 4 new door speakers(currently stock) or upgrade to a new, good head unit over my pioneer head unit(dad had it put in maybe 5 years ago...decent quality)?
Thanks

if you're buying coaxials I'd probably go with 3 way, you get more sound seperation. Components is always the better way to go though, but generally costs more... don't get me wrong coaxials can sound okay.
And everything always sounds better off an amp, I'm sure you could get an SPL 4 channel amp off ebay for less than 100$ that would sound better than powering them off the deck.

It would depend on the RMS rating of the speakers. If you're pushing 125w RMS speakers with a 50w RMS amp, they are probably going to sound like crap.
For example, if your speakers were 100w RMS each, you would want a 400w RMS amp (100w RMS x 4). You could probably get by with a 500w RMS (125w RMS x 4), as the sound would be a bit cleaner at higher levels.
And don't get peak power confused with RMS (continuous) power. An amp might say 1200w, but that will probably be peak power.

Keep in mind if you get a "good" 4 channel amp that has crossovers and such, you can get "quality" components for very little money from places like Madisound.
They're a local shop for me(in fact I went over there TODAY), and for a set of components that will annihilate almost ANYTHING, were around 600 bucks.. These drivers are put in "speakers" costing 5-10k... Scanspeak D2004 "Illuminator" tweeters, with 7" Scanspeak Revelator midbass's.. Not for the faint of heart, but omfg sooo sweet.
Reason I say "good" amp, is because you'll need to go "active" or read up and learn how to make passive crossovers. This is the "Plus" side of getting *premade* components, they come with their own crossovers..

alright guys here's what i'm thinking about doing.
1. change all 4 speakers with new 3-way 6x8s.
2. a buddy of mine has a sony amp that pushes 350? rms. i might get someone to look at it and if it's any good, he said he'll give it to me.
3. if i could get the amp, i'd go ahead a get a 10"
im looking for comments and also suggestions on sub brands, along with the best location to put it.
Thanks

You could save some money by not replacing the rears. Personally I like my sound stage in front of me and don't even run the rears at all.
It would be easier for someone to suggest a brand if they knew your budget though.
If you want cheap there is phoenix gold rsd 6.5 that sound pretty good for the price. You have to use a speaker adapter for those though or make one.
For a little bit more money I just bought a set of Bravox components from SSA that sound pretty good so far.
