Hey Thump!

I just came across this thread! Holy smoke! As all have said, trucks can be fixed/replaced. The more important thing is that you are ok! Whatever your decision ends up being, I wish you all the best. I hope to see you in a new badass ride again soon or having your current truck fixed back to new. You sure did have one of the nicest trucks here on the site and I hope that everything works out in the end.

Los

It sucks that you have insurence and you have to be afraid to use it.

This may help give another comparison in damage costs. The truck below is from a sister forum and the damages from it totaled up to $6500 I believe. This is in Louisiana and your in Florida so I would assume the bodyshop prices should be close in comparison. Of course I dont know what quality the bodyshop was, so that is another large factor in price.

If you can afford to fix it yourself, you're usually better off rather than turning it in on insurance. They are in business to MAKE money, not give it away so they WILL make it back in rate increases over the long term. Think about it this way, add up all the premiums you've paid throughout your life and subtract what you have claimed, you'll be surprised how much you are in the hole.

I forgot to add that Allstate is dropping 16,000 customers here in Florida coming soon. . .

A couple of thoughts from an old fart. First, there is no way in hell that you were doing around 40, try around 65. Second, I am an aerobatics pilot, no one gets in my car or plane without wearing seatbelts, period. I don't care if she's giving me a bj, seatbelts are on. Third, the police are already involved, not filing an insurance claim isn't going to buy you all that much. The truck is certainly repairable, but it is going to be expensive, I'd guess around 10K.

If you are going to spend 10K on a repair, consider selling the wreck and using the sale and the 10K to buy new. It may well end up being cheaper.

Also consider filing an insurance claim. If Allstate ups your (parents') rates, just dump them (Allstate) and go with another company like State Farm. Insurance companies are in business to make money and compete. Also, I believe that Allstate has a specific policy for you. It has a higher premium but allows for one or two accidents with no change in rates. Good luck.

They cannot drop you because you file a claim and use the service they offer and you pay for. Am I missing something here? What is the point of paying insurance monthly or on a six month basis if you can never go to your insurance company to file a claim and try and pay everything out of pocket?

I have Progressive and had them last year during my accident. My accident was roughly $13K to fix and my insurance didn't go up at all. It actually when down $100. By the way I'm 24.

Besides, if they drop you after they fill the claim then find somewhere else to conduct business. It's not that hard, there are a lot of providers.

That 16,000 quote is home owners insurance provided by Allstate. They're dropping people because of the risk on coast lines in Florida for Hurricanes and/or they have a mobile home. Their risk is too high for Allstate as they got hammered in the past hurricane seasons.

You know I was thinking...if your afraid Allstate will deny the claim because of your truck being modded wasn't this something you (and your parents) thought about before the accident and should have checked out? Basicaly if not you might as well have been riding around uncovered. Sure you had an insurance card but you were not protected in the event you had hit somebody (and thats the real reason for insurance.) Even in a true accident if you were at fault and your insurance wasnt valid you (or in this case your parents) could have lost everything you own. You really need to make sure your covered before you put it back on the road.

Tyson, I appreciate your input but no it was a 40-45 mph hit. Trust me, it might of even been less. The point of impact was right after a corner, my truck is a slug, it couldn't get up to 65 mph that fast if it wanted to. . trust me.

This was something we found out after the fact of the accident. However I really don't think it'll be denied because of the modifications after reading all of these posts and talking to some more people. . like I said before, we do not know what we're going to do right now. I'll keep everyone updated.

Unless you have something to hide (ie: if you were drinking) then file a claim. Chances are your insurance company will find out anyway. If you get a ticket (which you should, for failure to control a motor vehicle - at least in texas you would) then your insurance company will know and you'll end up with the same jacked up rates.
