Cool

Rich,
It was all custom 2", no cats(no inspections in MT) with 24" glass packs. I must say I have been very happy with it.

Hello. I have a 1985 F-150 in great shape. Just replaced the carburator, EGR valve and oxygen sensor. Before the new parts gets about 10 mile per gallon. Hope to see an improvement now.
Truck has 160,000 original miles.

'92 F-150 4X4 flareside, only 94,000. Engine runs very strong but the tranny doesn't have to much left in it. I would say I have around 30,000 before i will need to replace it. I love my 351W V8 it a great work horse engine and im don't go easy on it. Thats why my tranny is going bad.

Check out the pics of my truck use the address in my sig below.

'94 F150, 4.9L, 5-speed, over 160,000 miles, original engine and tranny, still running strong.

My father had an '83 F150, 4.9L, 4-speed with over 230,000 miles on original engine and tranny. The tranny finally went out back in the early 90s, the engine was still running fine.

1993 2WD F150 4.9L 6 E4OD 153000mi
I bought it new with the barebones option ( paid $11,000).
Few minor glitches but basically troublefree.
Recently started having tranny problems but overall it has served me well.
Motor using no oil and is a strong runner. Dodge and Chevys base motors of that time don't compare to Ford's exceptional six .
Only negative is mpg's , probably due to all that computer junk in there but I guess we can blame the EPA for that.

Just one question . The 5.0 V8 motor was a $1000 option at the time of sale . Why would anybody pay that for an extra 0.1L of engine?

Hello All,
Great board here. I've got a 93 150 with 146k. Although I've thought about trading it in, I just can't give up this truck!

Gustakeout,

Why, to hear that V-8 growl of course!

The straight 6 is more of a work truck. With the 5.0L, you get more horsepower (35 more stock) and a much greater market for mods. to beef it up.

While there may be only 2 cubic inches difference in displacement, (the 302 by the way actually is a 4.9L also from what I read in the Ford manual-- something like 4.94L) the two are very different in nature. From what I understand, the I-6 is a torquey, low reving engine not made for speed, but for hauling and to be very durable and tough. The 302 "5.0" is kind of a hybrid between a car and a truck engine. More for daily driving but with good after market potential. Any of you other Ford guys can jump in anytime if I'm wrong.

Exclamation

1990 F150 XLT Lariat, 2WD, Reg Cab, Long Bed, AOD, 3.08 rear.

Bought new in 89, traded off in 95 with 110k on it. Running like a dream.

Current owner still has it. As of last time I talked to them, 462,000 on the clock. Original engine, tranny gave out at 400,000 (or so) and a couple of water pumps. Uses 1/2 qt between changes, doesn't burn it, but has small rear main leak.

Kinda wish I never let it go.

209,000 on my '81 f150 4x, regular cab stepside.

However, it (the money pit as my wife lovingly? calls it) has a rebuilt 351m with an RV cam, is now a 4v by a weiand manifold and carter carb, huge open exhaust, rebuilt 4spd, rebuilt rear axle with ford ltd slip, radiator, rebuilt front drive shaft, clutch, bed (wood), stereo, 4" lift, 33" tires, etc. etc.

But, need to upgrade to SC or a crew, as we (5 of us) don't fit any more.

Lightbulb

1990 F-150 4x4 Supercab SB XLT, 302cid, 5spd manual, 116K miles, Air, Power everything. Bought 8-99 with 99K mi.

Previous owner had a rebuilt short block put in at 95K, but I had to do alot of work to get her where she is now. (The front passenger side outboard disc pad had come completely out on the day I picked it up (Pedal went to the floor just as I entered a major intersection!) so I replaced both calipers.)

So far I've replaced the heater core, steering box, drivers side power door lock actuator, transmission mount, exhaust system & cat converters, EGR pipe (under air intake plenum), both drive shaft U-joints, plus some smaller jobs like broken valve cover bolts, stripped threads, etc.

I've done a tune-up and replaced the O2 sensor, spark plugs (instead of tapered seat plugs, someone? put in the old metal-washer type plugs), wires, cap, & rotor. I adjusted the timing to specs but it still wouldn't run just right. When starting in first gear, you had to give it quite a bit of gas or it would stumble. Once the RPM's were up, it ran fine. This was finally solved last month when I took it to Ford & they did an injector flush. Now she runs fine. I'm convinced that if the previous owner(s) knew what they were doing, I wouldn't have had such a bear (not to mention marital stress). I'm usually good at seeing stuff like this before I buy, but
I must have been dreaming of her on the beach.

Extras:
32x12.50 BF Goodrich AT's on chrome Wheels
Catback Duals w/ 3 1/2" Chrome tips
Bed Liner
Custom front bench seat w/headrests
Painted Truck Box
Rear bench raised 4"
Kenwood 30W x 4 Stereo w/ Jensen 6x9's in rear panels (quite a job cutting those panels for a guy who's 6'3"!)
Thinking about installing a superchip, but don't want to buy premium gas. Any ideas?

Previous Used Fords (With alot less trouble):
1979 Supercab 2WD, 300cid I6, Auto. (wish I still had her!) Sold at 120K mi.
1985 Bronco 4x4, 300cid I6, 4Speed. Sold at 115K mi. to get a 1990 Taurus wagon (2 kids)

My wife drives our '98 Expedition & likes it almost as much as the '94 Suburban we had before.

Note: I've owned good & bad Fords & Chevys!

Cool

My 1996 turned 103,000 today, never had a wrench to it. Most dependable, trouble-free truck I've ever owned, hope to get at least 500K out of it.
