That is called reliability. You want reliability in a gun that you trust your life with.
The 870 has been around since 1950, but Remington has been making a real cheap version of their former shotgun in the Express model since '96. There's a big difference between the Wingmaster and the Express. The Police model is basically a Wingmaster with a parkerized finish. I don't know what model many of you have, but if it's not a Wingmaster, it's pretty much crap. If some of you are comparing the Express to other shotguns, Remington does have a better effort out there.
Oh yeah. All my guns were lost in a horrific boating accident too.

Call it what you want, but I want something that puts a single hole in a target while being reliable, which is very possible if the manufacturer takes the time and effort to do so. It's called quality, which is too often overlooked by consumers and manufacturers to save a few bucks. There is a reason people spend what they do on a Kimber or something of equal or greater quality.
I just bought one a couple weeks ago, shot it twice now but bought it to carry and keep in my truck.
Here are some of mine. Most are carried/ shot on a regular basis. Currently building aN AR-15, with intentions to start competing in some three gun matches. Already have a Benelli Nova Tactical, so only need an AR or similar.

By the way all of guns are kept secured in a fire safe, other than whatever is in teh nightstand, or on me.

I will say that my buddy, brother and myself all just bought 870's recently and while out dove hunting all 3 guns were jamming like crazy. The spent shells were not ejecting. As you can imagine with flocks of dove flying over us and not being able to cycle another shell we were all pissed. My brother did some research online on what the problem was and how to fix it. We all ended up having to take a drill and brake hone to polish the chamber. Problem solved now. I paid like $150 bucks for a cheap Mossberg Maverick shotgun a long time ago that I never once had a problem with. I love my 870 now, but really Remington cmon you have a problem with a lot of these new 870's that you need to address.
I've had quite the opposite effect with Mossberg Ranger vs. 870. Mag tube plunger hangs up constantly on the Mossberg making it so you cannot load shells.
All my buddies and my Dad depended on an 870 Wingmasterd or Model 12's to always beat my *** with my fancy shotguns I collect. An 870 to them is a Whappon of Death

I salute you for pursuing your passion for those things you love; don't be so sensitive to others opinions. It's your money and its what you love so who cares if someone like buck or myself make a playful comment of how pointless something is.
Awesome collection
As pointless as some my thing silencers are; they are still really cool. Thanks for sharing your pics.

Getting some marksmanship training from some of the best in the world
Here is me, my brother and my dad at Camp Perry:

Bet you didnt know we kept German prisoners of war in Ohio during WWII:

Member of the Airforce Markmanship Team teaching me the basic techniques and shooting positions: standing, prone and sitting:

Getting ready to shoot:

Those targets are 200 yards away. You need to hit it that faint black dot you can barely see in the center of the targets that are above those numbers to get a 9 or 10 score:

Yep, these are real M16's with burst fire selector (three round burst). We did not use this mode of fire because i is extremely inaccurate and everything we did was for accuraccy.

Here is what it looks like "in the pits" under the targets. Half the time you shoot, the other half you are in these pits and the shooters shoot into the target right over your head. You hav to look for the bullet hole hit and pull down the target, mark it and put it back up for each and every shot. I had about 250 bullets shoot about 5 feet above my head.

Some youtube videos I took of dad shooting so you can understand the course of fire:

Here is a nice video in the pits looking at bullet hole "magically" appear on the target a few feet above you:
