Estimate for front bumper replacement, $500!!

Where would you guys go for a replacement bumper? Out of curiosity, I stopped by a body shop today for an estimate of a new bumper, paint and install. Estimate came in at over $500. The new bumper itself, without paint or install, came to over $247. I've seen bumpers on ebay for less than $100. Are they cheaply made, or is the one I was quoted an overpriced OEM?

Thats what OEM goes for. The stuff on eBay is well, eBay. It depends how much you want to spend. I spent Around that much to repair my front when I crashed it...

An oem will take some abuse. A tinfoil ebay one will dent if you get a bird good. Its the ol you get what you pay for.

Hey, check Wyman Body in Griswold IA. about an hour drive for you. He might be high, but we've had plenty of work done there. He's good at what he does. As long as your not hounding him that is. He has had some of his work go across mecum autions for a pretty penny. Ill catch the number if you want me to tomorrow.

Thanks for the headsup, but I will probably keep it here in Omaha. I don't have another vehicle to use while the truck would be in the shop, so I want to keep it local.

I am going to get another couple quotes to see what else is out there.

Have you tried looking in your U-Pull It type yards? I scored two Ford rear bumpers at my local Pull-A-Part in great condition (except for one had a ripped step pad) for $33 each for my 1998 F150.

They are great Ford quality and some Wenol really shined them up. Even sitting used out in the elements, I think these bumpers will hold up better than Taiwanese parts.

I would definitely check out a local junkyard. Chrome ones are easy to find, and for $100 or so. You could always wait for a painted one in your color to show up if you for sure want a painted one. Also, you can get any bumper painted, though chrome needs to be completely stripped off to be painted on properly. I would stay away from cheapie bumpers
