discolored grill emblem

i have an 07 and my grill and tailgate emblems are less than perfect. the blue seems faded and they look like they are peeling. not terible yet, i've seen some bad ones. anyone else have this problem and what did you do, or plan to do? any cool aftermarket replacements? maybe acetone and make chrome like side badges? all sugestions are very appreciated.

patriot decals makes a nice overlay if its not peeling off yet, and you dont acetone the ford badges, you have to heat them up with a blow drier or a heat gun and peal the rubber part off the front

Every dealership Bodyshop I have ever worked for has a junk drawer in the back someplace full of old clips, retainers, and emblems. Most times a new grill comes with the new badge, and we pop off one in good shape and chuck in the junk drawer for the rainy day someone might need it, and every body guy out there would agree with me.

My suggestion is to take the two nuts off the back of your grill, and hit your dealer body-shop up. They definitely have "the drawer", they just might not be willing to share the goodies inside.

My dad has the same issue on his 07 Expedition, he refuses to replace them himself, with the logic that I looks bad on Ford if they won't repair it themselves. This after the paint on the rear door bubbled after 3 years and Ford wouldn't own up to it.

Ahh... The magical bin that contains a plethora of bolts, clips, screws, nuts, bulbs, pigtails and just about every other small misc. item you can think of. Any body man worth his salt has this. I also love the non-reusable nameplates. You know... the ones you can re arrange the letters to spell out... alternative words and or sayings.

Yeah, Mine is doing the same thing. I was reading the "I'm new here" thread from Marshal yeaserday and he pulled his off and I believe blacked it out. The paint cracked so he left it off and bought a new grill.

However, on mine I too am going to take both off and paint the blue black and scuff down the chrome to a brushed look. and reclear. I'll post some picks when complete.

I have this same problem on my 2007 F150. I wrote to Ford twice, and called them thinking that it is advertisement at the least, and they should replace it for free. No go. Should have bought a GMC...

Same issue on my 06. The front came off easy but the rear is giving me a headache. I tried 65 lb. test fishing line and it still won't move. Does the rear have the same posts the front has? Please, a pearl of wisdom from someone who has taken them off (without damaging the sheet metal). I want to sand down the letters so the overlays go on right with no air bubbles.

I ordered the overlays yesterday. Carbon fiber base color with chrome letters. I will post pics when done. Assuming I get the back one off....

I tried the access panel. It doesn't give you access to the back of the emblem. There is a metal reinforcement in the way.

I ordered my overlays from gunnergraphics.
