one thing is certain- i'm not using troyer!
taking a 22-lb rotating mass off the water pump and accessories belt reduces parasitic loss and "frees up" up to 10hp off the engines crankshaft. Said reason also improves mileage, and mileage is thus further improved by the fact that the fans arent spinning when you start up the engine (compared to the mechanical fan) so the engine warms up faster, reaching its closed-loop faster, thus more fuel savings

OGTerror,

I see your point about the controllers working flawlessly so I should have posted that my Troyer Kit lasted between 5 and 7 years. The other "accessories" that I added were for redundancy out in the boonies. If you take a peek at my signature you will see that I like to tinker.

You automatically become a senior member when you reach a post count of 100. The administration and moderators are in charge, who else would it be?

Alright, ended up being a little more then I thought at $435 shipped. Not a bad price for what you get compared to Troyer or Flexalite. Here is what I got with the kit

2 fans (I got the curved blade, they are quieter): http://www.universalpartsinc.com/det...?PART=30102082

Controller Kit: http://www.universalpartsinc.com/det...p?PART=PWM-KIT

Plus brakets, and anything else I need. I will take pics of it all when I get it. and will keep all updated with install.

Yeah, group buy would have been nice, guess you can email brian and find out, he is usually pretty quick to reply. Just tell him your interested in ordering the kit that I (Bobby) just ordered for his F150. Not sure they would though with how low their price is already compared to what SPAL sells for. To get the same stuff I just got from SPAL directly would be a lil over $600.

I just contacted ford parts center and for a 2010 dual fan assembly kit it cost $200.00. I asked if that had the mounting brackets and everything, and he said it looks like it has the shroud and all. I'm sure you'd have to purchase the relays and the rest of the wiring for it. Not sure if it would fit on a 04-08 models or not. If so this maybe a good option to go with.

Wow, talk about thread jacking. Sorry, OG, but I feel I need to throw a caution flag here. No doubt Spal makes great components, but this is hardly a plug and play kit these guys are throwing together. I'd wait and see how 06FX4X4 does with these components. Having installed Troyer's kit, which is engineered to install in our trucks, and knowing they're providing universal mounts, it bears to have some patience in seeing how it all works out and comes together. I'm not sure where you're going to be able to screw that temperature probe into the engine's water passages. Anyone else know? Likewise these guys aren't giving you wiring diagrams to show where to tap into the a/c clutch and a switched power lead. At least one fan should be running while the air conditioning clutch is cycling, which relies on a power signal from the compressor clutch. Without drawing air through the condenser when the compressor is engaged, you're not going to have cool air coming out the vents.

I applaud your intentions of putting together a better mouse trap, but unless you're pretty familiar with putting something like this together from scratch, you may be in over your head. While Troyer's kit has shown to be problematic for some with regard to controllers, it is a well engineered kit with a decent set of instructions that demonstrate the correct way to install his fan kit. No doubt some have the ability to do this, some won't. I not questioning anyone's abilities in the this post, I'm merely pointing out there's more to installing electric fans than you might imagine, and a whole lot harder without a road map.

Perfect!

I need to look at one of my co-workers 2010's and take measurements. If the factory 2010 fans bolt up that would be the best option for us.

Good day all.

I concur. Perhaps, get the folks selling this 'kit' to at least go the extra mile and provide installation instructions.

I believe there are bits & pieces of this info scattered across this site and several others, some showing the actual connection points/wire color, for the Acc, A/C, etc connections, and other tidbits. Perhaps one of you folks could take the time to collate same for the others.

Here's the best part: those guys sold you an unecessary component - the external temp sensor. The controller can use the factory ECT sensor - it's programmable to scale the sensor's signal output to control turn-on temps.

See the manual, page #7: http://www.spalusa.com/pdf/FAN-PWM-V....PDF#view=FitH

My take on this is, they should have told you - they should have a lock on the stuff they sell, IMHO.
Stupid old me fingered that one out from the docs long ago. It's how I use mine ...

I would consider modifying the Group Buy or whatever you guys decide, to not include the liquid water jacket sensor - Windsor is right - it's gonna be fun to find a good place for that. And, it's not required anyway.

I sincerely hope this info helps someone ...Good luck!

Cheers & have a great weekend!
