PSS,
I love going to Big Cedar, we usually go down there once a year but I don't think that we'll make it this year And I think that the ramp at Big Cedar is free, I'm sure that you're supposed to stay there to use it but I never remember seeing anybody watching. If not, I remember that my grandparent's old neighborhood had a free ramp, it's a few miles past Big Cedar off of JJ. Also, do you ever come across any good pontoons? I'm from a large family (1 of 5 kids) and my dad is really looking for a pontoon with a decent size motor.

Lakerdad,
I'm in St. Charles, MO

99% of what I mess with everyday is pontoons.

What price range are you looking for?
Might I also suggest looking in to a deck boat.
They seat as many as a pontoon, floor & Furniture lay out is like a pontoon, plenty of power for speed or playing, easier/nicer ride, and better all around performance including gas mileage. Think of it like a pontoon floor in a V bottom hull. I'm thinking about getting one maybe next year.

PSS,

I'm the oldest of five kids (all boys). My dad is really leaning towards the idea of a pontoon for more room. I'd also like to get a pontoon for more room for the ladies It's our (my) dream to get a Xtreme Powertoon with a 8.1L V-8 but $70,000 for a pontoon? Come on, now. As for the budget, It really depends on several things but I'd say under $7,000. We'd like to find at least a 22 footer with over 100 HP, the bigger the better in length and HP. And if it's big enough, it'll give me another excuse to sell the F-150 and upgrade to the almighty Powerstroke, but I'm dreaming here.

Ahh your 150 will pull any toon you will find for $7K and it will never grunt.
40', w/ 5.7L I/O. Might have to get something bigger but even used 10-15 years old...your looking at $30K+ for that!

My cousin pulls his 24' Tracker, Party Barge with 100 HP, OB. with his 96 Jeep Cherokee with a 4.0L, I6, automatic. So if your 150 can't pull the same pay load as a 6 cyl Jeep... I'd be ashamed and trade it off anyway.

Here is what I would be looking for "IMO, the ideal boat for what your looking for".

Used 3-5 year old, 22'-25', Tri log, w/ 4.3L V6 I/O.

Dont get hung up on brand. Comparable price ranges all use the same drives, Same basic log designs, etc. Biggest differences are the upholstery, and graphics. On a pontoon your not going to be doing 50 MPH, "except in a "Play Craft" but you wont touch a Play Craft toon even used for less than $15K. The rest in this price range all handle the same "Flat corners". So performance dosen't matter that much. If you want any performance, don't buy a toon. They are made to cruise at about 35 mph for short distances across the lake, but mostly to anchor and sun bath or swim. A floating island as they are often refered to as.

As far as "more room in a toon": False
Deck boat will actually carry more people safely. And same size toon vs same size Deck boat. Deck boat will have a higher rated capacity w/ same amount of seating. Because it displaces more water and load pound for pound applys less pressure PSI on the hull.

You should probably subscribe to Pontoon and Deck Boat Magazine. or something similar. Pontoons and deck boats are a totally different beast than other boats. More difference in the toons than DB's. Most people dont understand how and why they are different to captain, so they don't know how to use them. Thats when they become dangerous.

I've been boating for years and I don't know how to operate a toon properly.
I dont like to just float in teh water I like to run. I've had several toons out and have almost been sunk more than once in them. But again I don't just sit still, and I like to run WOT most of the time.

How did a dodge guy get in here?

J/K..
If I could have afforded what I wanted, then I would be driving a Dodge too. Really really glad I didn't get one now... I won't have anything except a Ford now for a truck for a while.

Welcome to the boards...
If you venture up to the Genral Discusion Section I'll for warn you they are rough on newbies, will be especially rough since you drive a dodge, but once you get through the hazing. then you'll be alright. They're more or less a good group of guys up there.

Alright I'll keep my eyes peeled for you.

With gas prices and this late in the season any boat should be easy to find cheap right now.

I got busy and forgot to pursue a get together
We do need to do something.

I'm booked this weekend
After that I'm not sure...

PSS - any deckboat or pontooner with decent power and of a decent size will work for us, thanks again for the help.

Bristo - If the boat can easily seat 7 people then I'll take it.

One of my customers is getting ready to put out 10 factory second pontoons tommarrow. I dont know what sizes or what price for sure... But I have to go work on them tomarrow so I wil find out for you. They maybe a littel more than 7. I'd guess around 10 off my head. But it would be a brand new boat with maybe a dent in the fence or something stupid that is barely noticeable. But non of them will affect how they run, float, drive, nor the safety of the vessels. I'll look and see what they are and see what I might could get you one for.
