look at the rear fenders

I saw a guy with a black Screw with SVT badges (not Lightning) and L wheels at the store... I just busted out laughing... I was ok with the wheels because they are good looking wheels and you know they fit on an F150 but the SVT badges put me over the top..

Rob_02Lightning,
I have the stock 220hp SOHC 4.6. I've added a Magnacharger and it makes a nice improvement. I believe that I should be getting close to (if not) 300 peak hp to the rear. I haven't dynoed, and probably won't with this truck. It's real good, and a great first supercharged vehicle but it's not all that.
The 5-speed is a hinderance at the strip but in real world driving it's actually quite handy.
The DOHC 4.6 would be nice to have but I'm not ready to start swapping motors. If I can hang on to this truck after I get my next one I might see what I can do with it.
If I had more to spend I might consider some styling cues from the Lightning. I think head lights. I think the bumper like the one on the Boss 5.4 would look better on my truck. That's about it.
I'm waiting for more info on the next gen Lightning. If the price doesn't go up too, too much I may see about getting one in '04 or '05. If the price is going to go up a lot maybe I'll try and get an '03. I'm also contemplating a turbo diesel. I think that would be fun to tinker with.

Raoul, thanks! I think we all have good trucks. Your truck runs great times stock!
I'm glad I got to meet you, and the others. It proves that we are made up of some good people.
Well I had to buy my own beer. I still had a couple bucks left after buying all that gas. 19mpg is the best I could do. I sure do like to hear the whine though!

coming from a flareside non L owner ..i can't understand why you would install L badges either ..i would be completely embarassed to do that.. i guess it's a kid thing.. you might as well put a type R emblem on your truck... and look like a real ***... using L badges on a regular truck is pure disrespect unless you have the power under the hood..

1st question is why anyone would do that to an L? If it is a real L...I mean buy a specialty vehicle and make it look like the Sunday special $13K xl the dealers are hawkin..An L cost 30K buy an xl for 13K drop the lightning motor in it MAYBE 10K so 23..we'll say 25K compared to the L's 30k price tag plus what it cost ot convert the L to the XL...maybe its just me but I don't see the point. As far as a sleeper goes just leave the L exterior lookin stock drop the money in the motor and when everyone looks at you and is thinkin 13-14 second truck..your actually an 11 sec truck on your way to 10's. Example, my buddies cobra looks stock except he's got the chrome wheels instead of the factory machined...13 sec car right I mean it looks stock and everyone knows a camaro or modded Z can take a cobrao right? It sounds like every other rumbly exhaust mustang...but he runs a traction limited 10.9 in the quarter mile all motor..albeit it won't pass emissisons but we don't have those in Oklahoma so who cares..A stock lookin cobra..which there are several around here whoopin up on everything he can pull up next too...yeah..thats a sleeper too!
On another note I do have the lightning front end on my truck but I'm in the process of a supercharger and have NO badges on it at all other than the blue oval on the tailgate. Puttin an SVT on it would be similiar to blasphemy in my opinion and if someone wants to think its a lightning its their own fault for not knowin what they are talkin about/lookin at.

well I went to look at your pics and you have taken a wrecked L and brought it back to look like an XL or XLT reg cab... and now it looks like a fake L.. not trying to flame but why? what was the difference in price to get it back to looking like an L?

I looked at his photo's also, and what it looked like to me is that he bought a wrecked Lightning and put his "good" body on the Lightning frame and drivetrain. If that is what I think.....then......I saw great Nice sleeper and what fun to kick the z-28's and such. Thats what it was like when the 99's first came out...no one knew what had just hit'em

I bought an L that was totalled from a friend for 5,000 miles and it only had 24,000 miles on it. I already had a 97 F150 I took everything and put it on my frame. I only have 12,000 invested in the truck with many mods. I have the entire lightning. My truck is a L. But the only badges I put on her was the svt center caps and the svt on the seats. She is the real deal If 8.4 seconds in the 1/8th mile and a 60 ft of 1.89 is the real deal.I also wanted to keep the fleetside bed because it is different my truck does not look like everything else. Oh and Im sorry if Im not financially able to go and buy me a 30k dollar truck I bought my wife the brand new vehicle and had to build mine. If I had not done this there would be one less L on the road. It would have been parted out.

Sorry if it sounded like I was flaming I wasn't....I thought you were the owner of the truck and converting it to an xl to make it a sleeper..taken your xl and turning it into a pseudo "L" makes more sense especially financial because taking a 30k truck and spending the money to turn it into a sleeper doesnt make sense..takin a 15k truck and turning it into a sleeper makes much more sense in your case especially financially...so I understand now = ) and give you props for the work you have done
